"blue moon" and mayon volcano = fireworks!

This is Mayon Volcano now, it looks like a giant christmas tree. It sure looks beautiful looking from afar.

But people who live at the foot of the volcano needs to be evacuated because the volcano has been spewing lava and flaming rocks. Since yesterday, the summit of the volcano was obscured most of the time by thick clouds. No ash explosion was observed during good visibility.

But a bright blue moon will grace New Year's eve celebration worldwide. A blue moon isn't actually blue. It is actually the rare appearance of the second full moon of the month linked from the saying "once in a blue moon".

Scientists say that the full moon's (the "blue moon") gravitational pull could spark a major eruption of  the most active volcano in the Philippines --Mount Mayon. It would definitely be a fireworks display that is not man-made. It will look spectacular no doubt.

But what will you feel if you are one of the people who live at the foot of the volcano. Your main source of livelihood, rice farming and livestock raising, has been destroyed -- will you feel happy?

Happy New Year. Do join me in praying that Mayon's wrath will end soon.

2010 resolution #1

Found this article "5 Habits to Break in 2010"when I logged out of my yahoo account. First on the list of not-so-great habits -- NAIL BITING.

Guilty as charged.

I bite my nails when I am stressed out, don't have anything important to do, concentrating hard and stressed out (yes, I know I said that already). My nails are not really ugly or disgusting, it's just very short.

I should definitely break that habit. I will welcome and enjoy 2010 with clean, well groomed nails.

What about you? What bad habits are you going to change in 2010?

how does one become a real estate agent?

I have been working at home for a few years already, actually before RJ was even born. I currently have a few work-at-home jobs and I am eyeing another one right now. I want to try real estate brokering. Why add another job? I think being a real estate agent can be a rewarding career choice. You get to meet and mingle with different kinds of people. Not to mention the commission that you will get when you make a sale, isn't that rewarding enough?

How does one become a real estate agent anyway? I have been researching about that for a few weeks already. First, browse real estate ads and make a list of agencies you want to talk with. Start with the agencies near your place. If you live in Ontario for example you should search for ads available around the area. Make an appointment with the recruiting managers on your list. If you're new in this career (like me) don't forget to ask questions.

Once you're hired you need to obtain a real estate broker license. In Canada, to become a licensed real estate agent, one must complete a course of study as required under the Real Estate Act of one's resident province. The Real Estate Agents governing body of your province will provide the licensing requirements.

The next step: look for potential clients.

book sale indeed!

I went to my favorite second-hand bookstore last week. I was on my hands and knees, because the really cheap books are under the table, and I found this book! My eyes almost popped out of it's sockets. Why?

10 pesos! Glorious indeed! Approximately $0.22 as of exchange rate today. If you're not a fan of the Bridget Jones movies (me not a fan!) but the book is this cheap -- will you buy it?

Well, I did! What about you? Will you buy it too?

are you done with your Christmas shopping?

11 more days to go before Christmas!

I haven't done my Christmas shopping. Don't even have a Christmas shopping list yet. I did buy gifts for some of my son's teachers and classmates a month ago. I only have this weekend to complete the gift buying for those people. Next week is last week of classes before Christmas break.

I also have a Christmas lunchdate with my friends 2 weeks from now. Only bought rosaries and rosary guides for each one of them. Have to buy pouches for the rosaries as well as gifts for their hubbies and kids.

For my family, don't have any idea yet what gifts to give them.

I better start my list.

Ta-ta for now!

very heavy mini laptop?

If you're one of my blog's regular reader (as if I have one!), you would remember my post about my break-back-DELL-laptop. It was such a heavy laptop, I cannot bring it anywhere.

Oh! You don't know about that post? I was hoping you are one of my blog-fan. Nope?

That post is also about my new HP Mini laptop. I wanted to buy a DELL mini but I can't find one right away. I ended up buying HP Mini instead. A small laptop is what I wanted because I can bring it anywhere I go without breaking my back.

I have scoliosis - is a crooked back considered as broken? I guess yes. I don't want to break it more.

I did notice that the battery is attached at the back, not inside the laptop. The battery is not that big, so I thought there was no problem about it. Now that I've tried bringing it outside the house (the laptop - with the battery of course) I am regretting it already (buying an HP mini). Why? The battery and laptop becomes sooo heavy when carried around even for just a short period of time.

Lesson learned: Next time, I will be more patient. I could have just waited for a DELL mini but I was so impatient I bought this laptop with a battery as heavy as a mountain. I am not exaggerating, nope. I always have backpains everytime I carry the laptop out of the house.

friday fill-in's #8

1. Good times: Christmas, can't wait.
2. I miss my old home.
3. Sleigh bells ring are you listening :D.
4. my baby, not little anymore.
5. Once more holiday I enjoy: New Year.
6. This new year, will my stressful days end?
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to sleeping, tomorrow my plans include visiting my sisters and Sunday, I want to go to church!

christmas wish: i need a day-off!!

I am a WAHM. I have to deal with a lot of stress every single day of my life. People here in the Philippines have stay-in maids, I do not even have a stay-out maid! I do everything, everyday. I do the laundry, wash the dishes (don't have dishwasher!) clean the house, cook breakfast (of course lunch and dinner also), pick up my son from school. Yup, I am the maid, yaya, mommy rolled into one.

I am not complaining (not much). But the stress! Yes, I am stressed out everyday.

I need to unwind, I definitely need a day-off!

I would definitely enjoy having a janitorial cleaning service just for one day that can handle all of the daily duties for me like doing the laundry, washing the dishes, dusting the floor, etc. I am thinking of doing it once a month.

What would I do with all the spare time I'll have on my hands? I would surely visit a spa. I need a massage. I need to remove all the stress bottled up inside my abused body. A trip to the salon would be next on my list. I need to have my hair fixed, I don't like the hairstyle that I have right now. A professional hairdresser is what I need to fix my hair problem. A new look would be nice. Shopping! It's been a long time since I bought clothes for myself. I definitely need new shirts and dresses.

What do you think? Should I start looking for a professional cleaning crew?

i have a bad perm, help!

I only had two hairstyle since birth - short hair with bangs and one-length long hair. When I was younger, I was contented with my straight, shiny, black hair.

Because of too much hair products (experimenting with different shampoos), my hair became dry, unmanageable and it curls in the wrong places.

I've been wanting to have my hair professionally curled. The need to have a new look was so intense already, my hand had a mind of its own that day. It already called my sisters' so called hairdresser before my mind could even react.

To cut the long story short -- I do not like my new look. I guess the hairdresser was not-a-professional-haircurler. She straightens my sister's (and cousins) curly hair. I showed her pictures of hair curls that I do NOT like. When I saw my curls, lo and behold! It was exactly the same with one of the pictures that I showed her.

And the nightmare doesn't end there. After a month, the bottom part of my hair is straight already and the middle part is still very curly!

Lessons learned:
1. If your sister is happy with the services of a person-who-straightens-hair, don't hire her services to have your hair curled!
2. A very, very cheap fee will never guarantee you a good service (I only paid Php400~ roughly $8)

I'm planning to have a haircut, just the bottom part of my hair. But just thinking that the people in the salon (where I am a regular client) might laugh at my ridiculous-cheap-bad-perm, makes me cringe in embarrassment!

What do you think should I do with my hair?

need high-quality windows, any suggestion?

I have been looking for replacement windows for our house. I need one that will make me feel safe when I am in the house with my family. I need one that is not just attractive but will also give the best security in the morning or when we are asleep at night. I need one that will keep us unharmed from burglars and other harmful people passing in our neighborhood.

While searching online, I found the website of Penguin Windows. It is the 8th largest replacement company in the US. THe company's main office is located in Washington state. Penguin Windows are currently available in Washington, Oregon, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Maine.

Started in 1984, the goal of the company is to sell high-quality replacement windows to homeowners who want to make their life (particularly their home) safer.

The company offers a variety of products, including vinyl siding, roofing, and sunrooms. As the business evolved, so did the company’s focus. The company primarily focuses on  residential replacement windows. They offer the most energy-efficient windows in the industry, which guarantees at least 40% energy savings. They employ AAMA certified installers so that they can offer a 100% full service warranty on their windows as well as their installation.

Do you think I found the right replacement window company? Will it make my home safer, more attractive and energy-efficient

GT#4: my birthday

I am a virgo. I was born on September 11.

When I was in grade school, my birthday is a national holiday. That's because I share the specialness (is that even a word?) of the day with then Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos. What a treat for all my classmates, right? No school on my birthday, they just have to attend my party.

I was the first child (of my parents of course) and the first grandchild (on my mother's side) so I was a little bit a prima donna (brat?). I have a party every year but when I turned 4 my parents decided to just give me a present on my special day instead of a party.

Day of my birthday I had a fever. To make me feel better, my mom and dad invited some friends to join us in cutting the birthday cake. As soon as I learned that, I didn't have a fever anymore. A lot of friends came and it turned into a whole afternoon of fun.

GT#3: my favorite gift

vampires and werewolves

twilight saga

These are the main characters of the Twilight Saga. Plus the human of course.

Yup, I've read it. Haven't watched the movies though.

I didn't plan on reading the books by Stephenie Meyer when I learned that it was a love story. I have been a love story retiree for years, I am into suspense and mystery novels now. But my friend R has a collection of the Twilight Saga, she let me borrow it last weekend.

What's the verdict? Do I like it?

I love the Twilight book. What I love about this book is the unconditional and selfless love between the vampire (Edward) and the human (Bella). I shed a few tears because of the intensity of their love for each other. Ok, I admit it, I am a sucker for love stories. That's the reason why I don't like reading love stories anymore, I am such a cry baby.

I was so excited to read the next book, New Moon. But it was a disappointment, for me though, because this is more of Jacob's story, the werewolf bestfriend of Bella. I did finish the book, Edward resurfaced from his hibernation towards the end of the book. Edward left Bella because he doesn't want Bella to get hurt anymore.

I don't even remember the title of the 3rd book. I got so bored with it I decided to NOT read it halfway through the book.

Breaking Dawn is the 4th and last book of the Twilight Saga. This is more about Edward and Bella's daughter. A thick book that didn't make me excited to read every single word. I just scanned the book, the "conversation" parts of the book.

My verdict? I definitely love the first book. The second and third, Not! The fourth, it was important to make the vampire-human love story a happy ending.

Have you read the Twilight Saga? Did you like it?

justice system in the Philippines, i do not trust

i haven't written a post for almost a month now, why? because i am depressed. we we're driven out of our home, the home that we bought with hard earned money. it was humiliating.

this is because the person claiming to be the owner of that house paid the judge that was handling the case.

justice system here in the Philippines is ... i don't want to say anything anymore. maybe there really is no hope for this country.

i can't go into details now, i am still depressed because there are a lot of things that still needs to be done for us to get our home back.

later.

have you cleaned up your inbox yet?

This was originally posted by me last April 13, 2009 entitled Messages.

I am trying to organize my email accounts. So far I finished deleting unsolicited emails as well as forwarded messages in one account. Out of 3000 inbox messages, I still retained 500.

Why didn't I delete messages even those from 5years ago?

I didn't delete messages from my family, even if its just a grocery list. Everytime I read their messages again, it makes me remember that I'm part of a group -- a group that God has chosen for me to be in. That no matter how big or small my mistakes or their mistakes have been, we'll always support and respect each other.

I didn't delete messages from my friends, even short messages like "Don't forget, kita kits on friday sa McDo Glorietta". Everytime I read their messages again, it makes me remember that I'm part of a group -- a group that I've chosen to be in. Through thick and thin, they are always
there for me. Never judging me no matter how unbelievable my decisions are.

I didn't delete messages from acquaintances, because maybe 10 years from now I can apply their forwarded messages to my life.

It's not just my email messages. I am fond of keeping text messages as well as Christmas, Valentine, Invitation, even Report cards =)

What about you, what "messages" can't you delete from your life?

GT#1: my favorite dress

Even if I want to, my daily activities does not permit me to wear a dress. I do have a few dresses in my closet but I seldom take pictures of me wearing one. I also like browsing the net or trying out dresses whenever I visit the malls.

This is my all time favorite dress- the wrap dress. I love wearing wrap dresses because it is slimming to any body type, comfortable, and chic. Wrap dresses never go out of style!

do you know when to say I'M SORRY?

A lot of people abuse using the words I'm sorry. Just because such words exist does not mean that we can hurt other people as often as we want.

Most of the I'm sorry given nowadays are so insincere, don't you just hate hearing it? Some people think that just because they said the-magic-words already, then whatever they did should be forgiven and forgotten right away. I don't think it's as simple as that. Saying I'm sorry without really meaning it only makes the situation worse. It only add more wounds to an already hurting heart.

It is so unbelievable also that some people apologize and does the same thing again and again and again. An apology has to be real to heal.

What about you, when do you say I'm sorry? When is an apology acceptable for you?

help for the typhoon victims in the Philippines

The Philippines was struck with heavy rains yesterday because of Typhoon Ondoy with International name Ketsana. Because the volume of rainfall that poured down for 6 hours was a month's worth of the usual Philippine rain, the effect was disastrous. Marikina and other neighboring cities was caught unaware when flood water already reached the rooftops of bungalow houses by 1pm. As of this writing, after 31 hours, there are still people on top of their rooftops waiting to be rescued. To all those who wish to donate, please visit the Philippine National Red Cross website.

very confusing PLDT bill

I am so annoyed when I received the statement of account from PLDT (Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company) this month. They even included a flyer stating that they made their new billing platform easier to understand and more detailed. NOT!

The sample in the flyer is sooo different from the phone bill that I received. Yes, it is different from last month's but it is also different from the new billing platform that they showed on the flyer. The sample phone bill on their website was so not the same with the bills that I have been receiving for the past year.

PLDT, I think you are trying to confuse us more because there are a lot of hidden charges that you add on our bills.

I called PLDT hotline 171 this afternoon. The agent who answered doesn't even know how to answer my questions. He asked me to hold the line because he still needs to research it. I waited for around 10 minutes! I had to hang up the phone already because I had to pick up my son already.

Their customer service hotline is open from 8am-6pm, are they not supposed to be open 24/7? I will call again tomorrow. I will make sure to ask for the agent's name.

23 September, 2009

do you have a bookshelf like mine?

Yes, this is my bookshelf. I know, I need to buy a bigger one. It is so crowded, books are spilling all over the place already. But our condominium unit can't accommodate another furniture. I did bring some books to our other house, but I still have lots of books on this shelf (some I haven't read yet). I do share this bookshelf with my son. His books are on the last two rows of the shelf.

I collect different kinds of books. From classic (what my younger sister calls "boring books") to inspirational, I even have joke books in my collection. When I was in my teens I do collect romance novels, but I do not like reading those now. My favorite authors right now? James Patterson, Michael Crichton, some Oprah's bookclub books.

What about you, do you have an organized bookshelf or a bookshelf like mine? Share your photos here people, let's judge who can beat mine!

warning: white rice is bad for you!

That is actually a reminder for me.

I have been eating a lot (lots and lots of cups) of white rice lately. For all of you who doesn't know it yet, rice is a staple food for Filipinos. Breakfast, lunch and dinner won't be complete without rice. White rice is a perfect partner to almost all Filipino dishes.

I usually cook brown rice but my son doesn't like it. This week I bought white rice during my weekly grocery shopping. RJ's mama is eating more (and getting fat!) instead of RJ!
Will switch back to eating brown rice next week. Or maybe I should just exercise and get to eat all the bowls of rice that I can eat to my heart's content :)

I feel so down yesterday, it was raining the whole day. I'm not really a fan of rainy days. Plans to go out of town did not push through also. Maybe on the 21st of this month we can go out of town, it's holiday once again in the Philippines. Three holidays for this month, vacation grande!

ABS-CBN GAMESTER, please stop sending spam SMS

Last year, my son was a regular viewer of "Wheel of Fortune", the franchise game show hosted by Kris Aquino, on ABS-CBN. For his 7th birthday, he wanted to download a "Wheel of Fortune" mobile game on my cellular phone. I said, "yes you can download, but just one game". That download was worth Php30.

Everyday after that, ABS-CBN Gamester doesn't fail to send an SMS message on my phone which deducts Php5 (Php2.50/text - it's a long SMS so I receive it in 2 batches) to my prepaid load. I tried calling the landline number indicated on the text message but the number is always busy! After a few months, the unsolicited text messages does not include their office number anymore! I sent an "unsubscribe" text already, but still the messages didn't stop coming everyday.

Excuse me ABS-CBN Gamester, I did not subscribe to your everyday SMS. Downloading a game doesn't mean that I want to subscribe to paying Php5 every single day of my life.

Knock knock to National Telecommunications Commission, when will you be able to stop these spammers from sending unsolicited SMS?

This weeks question is:
What meal do you want at this very instant?
Since it is almost 10 pm in the Philippines and I had dinner already, I just want oatmeal cookies and a cup of hot coffee.

manic monday #1

Are you usually late, early or right on time?
Most of the time I am early.
What would be harder for you, to tell someone you love them or to tell them that you do not love them back?
It would be harder to tell somebody that I don't love them back. Hurting someone is definitely not a fun thing to do.
Which would you rather have: a high salary or job satisfaction?
I would rather have job satisfaction. I function well if I am happy with what I am doing.

6. The last person I gave a hug to was my son RJ, who at 8 years old is almost as tall as me.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to sleeping early, tomorrow my plans include being present at my son's swim competition and cheering the loudest for him and his team and Sunday, I want to visit my sisters and attend mass with them!

your right is my left??

Most taxi drivers here in Metro Manila does not know kanan (right) and kaliwa (left). Whoever is giving taxi franchise to these drivers (LTFRB??), please also check if they know which way to go if their passenger asks them to turn right or left. This can cause accidents on the road.

4. I'm trying to resist the temptation of eating white rice.
5. I'm saving a yummy cake that i baked just for you!

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to visiting my sisters, tomorrow my plans include watching a movie with my son and Sunday, I want to buy a new book and will definitely attend mass!

My online connection is soooo slow! Hello PLDT, what is going on? Opening a single page takes more than 2 minutes. It's taking up so much of my precious time!

my new lacoste bag

I have a new Lacoste bag and it's pink. My aunt gave it to me this weekend. Thanks Aunt B! I love the bag because it is big. I love big bags since I always need to bring a book wherever I go as well as extra food (in case my son gets hungry).
