What’s your favorite word?

I don’t really have a favorite word, but since I have to choose one right now I would go for “want”.

WANT is defined, by the Accurate and Reliable Dictionary website, as the state of not having; the condition of being without anything; absence or scarcity of what is needed or desired; deficiency; lack; as, a want of power or knowledge for any purpose; want of food and clothing.

All-I-Want-For-Christmas-Is

Even if it’s not Christmas yet, I’m sure you want, desire or wish for something at this very moment. I pity you if you don’t feel the need for something right now, you may have to check if you’re really a human being or if you’re still alive.

I want to eat right now but I’m trying not to put food in my mouth before dinner. I need to have more cabinets installed in the house for our ever growing collection of books and clothes. My laptop needs its own computer table also. I wish for mall sale everyday. I pray that my son will always be obedient. I need a nice hairdo and I badly need a foot spa also. This list will continue on and on and on so I better stop right now. And that’s the “wants” that I can think of right this very minute.

What about you, what do you want right now?

The PERFECT birthday gift

A perfect hair and a perfect body, that's my birthday wish for this year.

So okay, a perfect body might be difficult to achieve in less than two months. Especially since it's so hard to resist delectable dishes! Can you say no to yummy food? Me, maybe yes if I don't have the sense of sight, smell and taste! But all my senses are working fine, thank God, so hello food!

The perfect hair is possible with the right hairdresser. I'm planning to have my hair permed again. But this time I'm going to a real salon and will not ask a home service hairdresser to perm my hair in the house.

So, what's your birthday wish this year?

The best birthday gift

The best birthday gift that I receive every year, since giving birth to my son, is a tight hug, a kiss and "I love you, Mama" from him.

Actually, he hug, kiss and say "I love you, Mama" everyday. He is such a sweet child.

Math Genius?

My favorite subject when I was in grade school and high school is Math. Here’s an excerpt from one of my previous post:
Math was my favorite subject in high school. My math teacher made me believe that I am a math genius! That made me decide to study Math in college. I passed the UPCAT (University of the Philippines College Admission Test) and took up Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics Major in Actuarial Science.
i love math

I was able to use whatever I learned in college for a few years. But I finally decided that there’s no love lost between me and the actuarial field. You might want to read my whole post on why I decided not to become rich.

My son doesn’t like Math. But I encourage him not to, hate math, because he’s actually the math genius in the family. Smarter than me, BS Math graduate, and his dad, BS Math and Physics graduate.

Any suggestions on how to encourage him not to hate Math?

the coolest gadget ever

I want to buy something if it has a purpose and not just so I can have the latest. This is on top of my I WANT! list at the moment - a Samsung Galaxy Tab.

Samsung Galaxy Tab with keyboard
geekalerts

What do I like about it? It is compact and light, a 13.58-ounce, 7-inch tablet that slips easily into a pocket or bag. I have scoliosis and my back becomes painful when carrying heavy things.  It is equipped with 3G connectivity, Wi-Fi  or Bluetooth. Internet-on-the-go means blogging-on-the-go!

I'm a bookworm, I have a bookshelf in the house overflowing with books. So this is one of the things I also like about this gadget. With just a touch of the screen you can read your favorite books, magazine and newspapers with the pre-loaded Amazon Kindle e-Reader. ThinkFree Office, an application that's compatible with Microsoft Office applications, can be used to view and edit, as well as create new, documents. I can edit some of the articles that I write without going online. Usable for my blogging needs even without an internet connection.

The Tab makes creating and sharing images and video fast and portable with its two cameras. And yes, the unlimited games that can be downloaded!

I have to dream about it for now. Save, save, save. In a few months, hopefully not years, I'll have one to carry anywhere I go.

the little black dress

I was an avid follower of the television show Tim Gunn's Guide To Style. He has this list of ten must-have in every woman's wardrobe. The Ten Wardrobe Elements are mostly classic pieces that fits you properly, are not outdated, and bring out your best features. First on the list is the basic black dress.

Basic Black Dress - The basic black dress has been around for a long time. It is often called the "Little Black Dress", and it's true that shorter skirts on the basic black dress, when they hit you in the right place, can be more flattering than a long black dress. ~suite101.com
I haven't found the perfect black dress for me, yet. But one of these days, I'll find "the one". You should look for yours too.

the most beautiful woman in the world

I am not a big fan of any celebrity. I love watching movies and television shows, but I am not a die-hard-fan-slash-stalker of any famous person. I remember when I was a little girl, my aunt was a big fan of Pops Fernandez. She used to bring me with her whenever Pops has mall shows. She even asked me to call a landline number and ask for Pops. It was the right number but Pop's yaya answed the phone.

Although I'm not adore-you-and-have-a-shrine-in-my-house fan, I do admire some of these people. They are beautiful in their own right.

breakfast cravings

This, I tell you, is not good! Chicharon with vinegar is not good for breakfast! I don't just need Mesothelioma for my not-sexy-anymore? body. With all the cravings going on in there -my head needs one too.

When I go grocery shopping, I try to avoid passing by the chips section. Marty's Vegetarian Chicharon is one of my favorite companion while watching television. Although it has "vegetarian" on it, I'm not convinced that everything on it is good for the body. Still, as I've said, my favorite -so the more I should convince myself I shouldn't pass by the chips section.

This is the last one, I promise.

Okay, that's it! I'm heading out the door and buying myself these yummy treats. I'll just starve myself tomorrow.

you don't love me anymore

This song actually makes me laugh. I know the topic for GT is "song that makes you smile", but I can't help sharing this song with you my fellow Girltalkers. I'm sure most, if not all, of you heard this song already. Just to give you a good laugh today. Happy GT!

"You Don't Love Me Anymore"
by Weird Al Yankovic

We've been together for so very long
But now things are changing, oh I wonder what's wrong?
Seems you don't want me around
The passion is gone and the flame's died down

I guess I lost a little bit of self-esteem
That time that you made it with the whole hockey team
You used to think I was nice
Now you tell all your friends that I'm the Antichrist

Oh, why did you disconnect the brakes in my car?
That kind of thing is hard to ignore
Got a funny feeling you don't love me anymore

I knew that we were having problems when
You put those piranhas in my bathtub again
You're still the light of my life
Oh darling, I'm beggin', won't you put down that knife?

You know, I even think it's kinda cute the way
You poison my coffee just a little each day
I still remember the way that you laughed
When you pushed me down that elevator shaft

Oh, if you don't mind me asking, what's this poisonous cobra
Doing in my underwear drawer?
Sometime I get to thinking you don't love me any more

You slammed my face down on the barbecue grill
Now my scars are all healing, but my heart never will
You set my house on fire
You pulled out my chest hairs with an old pair of pliers

Oh, you think that I'm ugly and you say that I'm cheap
You shaved off my eyebrows while I was asleep
You drilled a hole in my head
Then you dumped me in a drainage ditch and left me for dead

Oh, you know this really isn't like you at all
You never acted this way before
Honey, something tells me you don't love me any more, oh no no
Got a funny feeling you don't love me anymore

A Mother's Prayer

A Mother’s Prayer (HANNAH'S SONG) Words by Rachel Aldous
Music by John Mandeville
Verse:
My sweet baby on loan from above
no better treasure could I more love
I stand here beside your bed as I pray
I lay my hand on your head and I say:

Chorus:
May you grow up to serve Him
all of your days
May He lead you and guide you
in all of your ways
May He bless your future with
friendships that last
May you cherish your youth
and not grow up too fast

Verse:
I stare in wonder at your tiny frame
Just to think God knows you by name
He knows every hair on your head
He knows your thoughts before they are said

Chorus:
May you grow up to serve Him
all of your days
May He lead you and guide you
in all of your ways
May He bless your future with
friendships that last
May you cherish your youth
and not grow up too fast

Prayer:
May God grant you peace
in the midst of a storm
May God give you strength even
when you’re forlorn
May you answer the door when
Jesus comes knocking
May wisdom guide when
your mouth is talkin’
May discretion protect you
and keep you pure
May you never stumble
or fall for a lure
May your heart remain humble
to the very end
May uprightness and truth
be what you defend
May the world not ensnare
or change who you are
May the light that's within you
shine like the stars
May angels surround you
body, spirit, mind
May favor and peace be yours to find
May rejection and pain
never reach you
May your spirit grow bold
for what you’re called to

Chorus:
May you grow up to serve Him
all of your days
May He lead you and guide you
in all of your ways
May He bless your future with
friendships that last
May you cherish your youth
and not grow up too fast

Singing:
As you rest in God’s care I will rest too
Knowing that Jesus is watching over you
Amen

Hannah speaks: I love you, Mommy…

Life is like a box of chocolates, you'll never know what you'll gonna get. ~ Forrest Gump
So true. Very true indeed. Never did I imagine, even in my wildest dreams, that some of the things that happened in my life will ever happen. I have resolved, talked and convinced myself last New Year's eve, to accept everything that comes my way from this year onwards *fingers crossed*.

I am bracing myself for more surprises. Bring it on!

Girl Talk # 9

I love this week's topic for girl talk. I am amazed, actually, when I checked the topic for today

                Work Resolution

exactly what I was pondering about for a few days already.

I blog and I consider blogging my work. I was thinking about changing the layout of my four blogs, but I'm no layout artist. So I have to allot some of my free time (oh no, my nap time!) to learn about HTML among other things. That's first on my list of my work resolution

I so wanted to buy muck boots last month but ended up with nothing for me because of too much people to give gifts to last Christmas. So my other resolution, I hope it works, is to update my blog and visit my online friends everyday. Everyday from now on, not once in a blue moon but E-V-E-R-Y-D-A-Y! More blog visit means more you-know-what-friend$$ means buy-something-for-me-this-time!

So those are my blogging resolution, what's yours?

Hi Girls! My favorite "red" for this round of GT does not have anything to do with "passion, love, and beauty". I can't live without it though. It goes with me everywhere I go.

Ladies, meet my reliable checkbook. I use it to pay our monthly bills as well as those sellers who doesn't want to give official receipts. Which reminds me, I have to order new checkbooks because I only have a few cheques left.

Girl Talk # 7

*originally posted here

I love the movie "Steel Magnolias". It was shown in 1989 when I just graduated from grade school. I didn't watch it in a movie house, we just rent betamax tapes back then.

The cast includes Sally Field, Dolly Parton, Shirley MacLaine, Darryl Hannah, Julia Roberts.

Revolving around Truvy's Beauty Parlor in a small parish in modern-day Louisiana, STEEL MAGNOLIAS is the story of a close-knit circle of friends whose lives come together there. As the picture opens, we find Drum Eatenton shooting birds in the trees of his back yard in preparation for his daughter's wedding reception that afternoon. Shortly thereafter, M'Lynn and Shelby (Drum's wife and daughter) depart for Truvy's to get their hair done for the wedding. "Just the sweetest thing," Annelle Depuy Desoto (who may or may not be married because her marriage may not be legal) is introduced to Truvy's customers as her new "glamour technician." While in the chairs, the sour-tempered Ouiser Boudreaux shows up and entertains the assemblage with her barbs. It seems that the only one of the group who truly understands Ouiser is Clairee who is recently widowed and looking for a diversion. As she says, later in the picture, "If you can't find anything good to say about anybody, come sit by me." Filled with humor and heartbreak, these "Steel Magnolias" make us laugh and cry as the realities of their lives in tiny Chiquapin Parish unfolds.
Haven't seen this movie yet? You're missing half of your life. Why don't you go to the nearest video rental store near you and borrow one now.

Girl Talk #6: favorite junk food

I am a junk food addict. I do try to avoid them most of the time. My trick proven method? It's not rocket science actually. Anybody can do it.

What I do to avoid these fattening yummy junk food? I don't buy it. When I do my grocery shopping, I don't put it on the list. When I crave for one in the middle of the night, poor me no junk food in the pantry.

But I do buy sometimes, just so I don't salivate like a dog everytime I pass by the chips section in the grocery store.

What is your favorite figure-destroyer (my made up word) junk food? Share it with us at...

Girl Talk #5

It has been a while since I last joined this thursday girl bonding. My last post was about first boyfriend. Been so busy with 4th quarterly test reviews, good thing RJ didn't fail 2nd grade.

My comfort food is not home-cooked or eaten at informal restaurants, but it does brings some form or measure of comfort, sense of well-being, or easy satisfaction (wikipedia).

Girl Talk #3: Harvey

His name is Harvey, my first crush. Up to now, after 20++ years, we still haven't met personally. But still he was my first...crush.

I have a diary, all for purposes of writing down sightings of Harvey. I don't have it anymore, sadly, I could have posted excerpts of notes I have jotted down. My note's -- it's usually like this, "I have seen Harvey today, on my way home from school. He is surrounded by chickens. He looks sooo cute feeding them." Or "Seen Harvey at 330 pm, he is driving his yellow jeepney".

Memories. Wish I can be a teenager again.

GT#4: my birthday

I am a virgo. I was born on September 11.

When I was in grade school, my birthday is a national holiday. That's because I share the specialness (is that even a word?) of the day with then Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos. What a treat for all my classmates, right? No school on my birthday, they just have to attend my party.

I was the first child (of my parents of course) and the first grandchild (on my mother's side) so I was a little bit a prima donna (brat?). I have a party every year but when I turned 4 my parents decided to just give me a present on my special day instead of a party.

Day of my birthday I had a fever. To make me feel better, my mom and dad invited some friends to join us in cutting the birthday cake. As soon as I learned that, I didn't have a fever anymore. A lot of friends came and it turned into a whole afternoon of fun.
