addicted to blogging

I am maintaining 2 active, 4 not-so active and 2 new blogs. I don't think I'm a certified blogging addict yet. My almost two years of blogging gave me the opportunity to meet awesome people online. Some of these people are maintaining more than 10 active blogs. So there, I'm still out of their league. I'm not a blogging addict yet (note the not-so active and new blogs).

The only thing that's preventing me from getting the "certification" is the layout. It takes months for me to decide on a layout for my blog. I just want a simple layout and I can't seem to find one, a free template, that is simple enough for my taste.

Also, I don't like to spend so much time learning HTML. Is there a drag-and-drop site builder, that is compatible in building a blogger blog?

occupation: blogger; positon: general manager

I am a blogger. I am my own boss. I love working on my pajamas!

More people still think that blogging can never bring food on the table. Come on people, we're in the age of modern technology! Blogging is just like any "regular job" in a high-rise building. I urge you to try it, you might even like it more than your current job right now.

so expensive entrance fee

Since the start of summer vacation last week, my son swims almost everyday at the olympic sized pool of Philippine Sports Complex (formerly called ULTRA). He used to be a member of a swim club that trains at the said pool, Saturday and Sunday morning, when he was in 1st grade.

The pool has gone under major renovation for months. When it opened again I was shocked with the increase on entrance fee. They're now charging 60 pesos for kids and adults.

Pool fee was just, more or less, 40 pesos before the renovation. The only obvious difference with the before and after renovation are they added a more comfortable lifeguard station (no lifeguard all the time!) and fixed the diving pool (not open to the public anyway), so why the 50% increase on entrance fee??

queen of multitasking

The picture below is yours truly everyday. I know most stay-at-home or work-at-home moms can relate with me. I don't have a helper or yaya in the house. I do everything.

plus blogging, eating, washing the dishes = ME!
I can definitely say, based on experience, that working at home is much harder than working in a regular working environment. Especially with no maid! But the former is definitely more fulfilling than the latter.

the best time to go running

Early morning or when Mr. Sun has gone out for the night already. In my opinion, that's the best time to go running in an open field.

Some people though are very brave running under the heat of the sun. Don't they care about the damage it's causing their skin? Hopefully they're wise enough to put on sunblock to avoid any skin damage from the sun's harsh heat.

My son usually swims at 330 in the afternoon. Right across the pool is a track oval. I've seen local celebrities, like Edu Manzano and Will Devaugn, hit that oval under the heat of the scourging sun. I guess they're trying to avoid the thousands of runners frequenting the place after sundown.

They should check if getting very sick, due to dehydration, is covered by their health plan though.

you don't love me anymore

This song actually makes me laugh. I know the topic for GT is "song that makes you smile", but I can't help sharing this song with you my fellow Girltalkers. I'm sure most, if not all, of you heard this song already. Just to give you a good laugh today. Happy GT!

"You Don't Love Me Anymore"
by Weird Al Yankovic

We've been together for so very long
But now things are changing, oh I wonder what's wrong?
Seems you don't want me around
The passion is gone and the flame's died down

I guess I lost a little bit of self-esteem
That time that you made it with the whole hockey team
You used to think I was nice
Now you tell all your friends that I'm the Antichrist

Oh, why did you disconnect the brakes in my car?
That kind of thing is hard to ignore
Got a funny feeling you don't love me anymore

I knew that we were having problems when
You put those piranhas in my bathtub again
You're still the light of my life
Oh darling, I'm beggin', won't you put down that knife?

You know, I even think it's kinda cute the way
You poison my coffee just a little each day
I still remember the way that you laughed
When you pushed me down that elevator shaft

Oh, if you don't mind me asking, what's this poisonous cobra
Doing in my underwear drawer?
Sometime I get to thinking you don't love me any more

You slammed my face down on the barbecue grill
Now my scars are all healing, but my heart never will
You set my house on fire
You pulled out my chest hairs with an old pair of pliers

Oh, you think that I'm ugly and you say that I'm cheap
You shaved off my eyebrows while I was asleep
You drilled a hole in my head
Then you dumped me in a drainage ditch and left me for dead

Oh, you know this really isn't like you at all
You never acted this way before
Honey, something tells me you don't love me any more, oh no no
Got a funny feeling you don't love me anymore

falling hair problem

Every single day, usually while combing my hair after taking a bath, I can't help but worry that sooner or later I have to buy a wig. I have this really huge problem with falling hair. I remember reading an article that hairfall, even a hundred strands a day, is normal. But my crown-of-glory is not that thick so I worry, a lot!

post it note tuesday

I've been reading lots of good reviews about Sunsilk Hair Fall solution. I see the television commercial everytime I watch TV so I got curious if it can really help solve hair fall problems. Since it was co-created by no less than a world reknowed dermatologist, I decided to try it out.

Sunsilk Co-Creations, Hairfall Solution, Dr Fransesca Fresco

First wash, more than the usual hairfall while rinsing my hair. Although my hair smells good, I can't help but think "Who's the dermatologist again? Will google her later."

Second wash, more hairfall! I can now make a wig for my niece's bald dolly! It was a good decision to buy a small bottle but overall decision to try it out -not very good.

post it note tuesday

Should I try it again? Maybe third time's the charm. Throw it in the garbage? Maybe I should just give it to our condo's maintenance girl, 40 pesos for a 100ml bottle is not that cheap.

What do you think?

A Mother's Prayer

A Mother’s Prayer (HANNAH'S SONG) Words by Rachel Aldous
Music by John Mandeville
Verse:
My sweet baby on loan from above
no better treasure could I more love
I stand here beside your bed as I pray
I lay my hand on your head and I say:

Chorus:
May you grow up to serve Him
all of your days
May He lead you and guide you
in all of your ways
May He bless your future with
friendships that last
May you cherish your youth
and not grow up too fast

Verse:
I stare in wonder at your tiny frame
Just to think God knows you by name
He knows every hair on your head
He knows your thoughts before they are said

Chorus:
May you grow up to serve Him
all of your days
May He lead you and guide you
in all of your ways
May He bless your future with
friendships that last
May you cherish your youth
and not grow up too fast

Prayer:
May God grant you peace
in the midst of a storm
May God give you strength even
when you’re forlorn
May you answer the door when
Jesus comes knocking
May wisdom guide when
your mouth is talkin’
May discretion protect you
and keep you pure
May you never stumble
or fall for a lure
May your heart remain humble
to the very end
May uprightness and truth
be what you defend
May the world not ensnare
or change who you are
May the light that's within you
shine like the stars
May angels surround you
body, spirit, mind
May favor and peace be yours to find
May rejection and pain
never reach you
May your spirit grow bold
for what you’re called to

Chorus:
May you grow up to serve Him
all of your days
May He lead you and guide you
in all of your ways
May He bless your future with
friendships that last
May you cherish your youth
and not grow up too fast

Singing:
As you rest in God’s care I will rest too
Knowing that Jesus is watching over you
Amen

weekend blog follower caravan

Hey everyone! I am joining this blog caravan for the first time. I am very hopeful that I will meet more blogger friends that will make me look forward to going online and blogging more everyday.

I go by the name RJ's Mama in the blogosphere. I have been a stay-at-home mom for 10 years already to my one and only son RJ.

I've been sharing a little bit of my daily life at Journal of RJ's Mama and My Baby RJ for almost two years already. I've met a lot of new friends, mostly mothers like myself, and some who are not-so-friendly people in the blogosphere.

I would love for YOU to be one of my new friend in the blogosphere.

energy saving tips

I'm very particular with this rule in the house: conserving electricity and water. We live in a high-rise building that has high-end commercial pumps and generators so there's no problem with water supply and brownouts. No problem for now, but what about in the future? What will our grandkids have because we wasted water and electricity that we are so lucky to have in abundance now?

love mother earth

I just have simple rules in our home that my son can follow.
1. Turn off the television when nobody is watching.
2. Turn off all lights or any electrical appliance when no one is in the bedroom (bathroom, kitchen, laundry room or any particular room in the house).
3. Put water in a glass to rinse teeth after brushing.
4. Turn off water in the bathroom when the pail is already full (my son doesn't like using the shower)

That covers everything that my son can do in the house to help save water and electricity. Not that hard right? Your kids can do it too.

this might help you

Are you bored with whatever it is that you do day in, day out? Here's a poem that might help you. I found this poem in my son's Language folder from school. The teacher might have noticed how the kids hate studying and doing seatworks in class.

I should put this in the laundry room, I wonder if it will help me smile while I'm washing my son's dirty socks. I ought to put one near the kitchen sink also. And yes, in the bathroom, I want to enjoy scrubbing the tiles!

facebook not safe?

I was reading a blog when I noticed a news headline on my browser dashboard about a girl getting threatened on facebook.

She was a cheerleader in high school and most probably one of the IT girls. She received an invitation to be a friend, on her facebook account, by a schoolmate who she was never friends with. This guy was the nerdy type and probably very unpopular during their high school days.
 webdistortion
The first few PM's (personal message) were friendly until it got to a point when he was sending messages that were too uncomfortable for her already. She then sent a message with STOP written 100 times. That's when the scary emails began.

She then created a facebook page "If I get killed tonight, this is why" and posted all threatening messages there. Fortunately, her mom is a cop. Her mom helped her report the incident to the right authorities. The guy is now in jail.

My two cents? Facebook is safe to use. It's the facebook user who's making it unsafe. Don't put personal informations about yourself, don't broadcast your daily activities and be a more responsible facebook user. That's all you have to do to be safe online.

the hands that rocked my cradle

Literally. My dad did that when I was still a baby. I was his first-born, the apple of Papa and Mama's eyes, so I was nicknamed Apple. My dad is not the type that easily gets angry. In fact, he seldom gets angry with us kids. A trait that my sister Didut has inherited. Very patient people, unlike me and my mom. So when he does gets angry, with just a simple (scary) stare, no questions asked -we obey in a jiffy.
On the 6th of this month, my Papa is turning 68. I would love to give him some cigars but it's not good for his health. I'll just think of another gift. His birthday is still a few days away so there's still plenty of time.

Happy Birthday, Papa!

trick art museum at seriland

I got curious with this Korean "edutainment" theme park when I first saw it featured on a morning show. So off we go to Seriland The Land of Happy Thoughts last Sunday afternoon.

Seriland

There are four activities, with an entrance fee of Php150 each, to choose from. The Mirror Maze, 3D Trick Art Musem, 3D Cinema Plus and Kids’ Paradise. There's an on-going promo of buy 3 get 1 ticket for free until the end of May 2011. Kids and adults have the same entrance fee.

We had the most fun at the trick art museum.

Both kids and adults will enjoy visiting Seriland, located at the 2nd floor of Manila Ocean Park, especially the Trick Art Museum. But there's no point in coming back. Not unless there are new activities and new trick arts in the future.
