back problems? here's what you should do

Gift yourself with calcium supplements everyday.

calcium supplements

I have scoliosis. Pain on my upper back is, and will forever be, part of my life. I need to do more upper body workout but I can't seem to fit it on my schedule. Yes, I have a busy schedule. Being a work-at-home Mom is not as easy as other people think. Back to my back problem. I do try to not forget my after-breakfast routine of taking my multivitamins. But more often than not, I forget.

More calcium intake is very important for my bones. And yes, for yours too. I try to drink more milk, eat more tofu and other food rich in calcium. But research has shown that calcium from food is not enough. Calcium supplement is very important for our body to get the right amount of calcium that it needs. That's also true with other vitamins and minerals.

Haven't included vitamins and minerals in your life yet? You should start today.

mobile phone for the blogger on-the-go

Even the lightest and smallest netbook makes my back really painful, after just a few minutes of carrying it, because of scoliosis. There are indeed a lot of cellular phone suitable for bloggers, whose always on-the-go, who doesn't want to carry heavy laptops or netbooks.

I am not really into cellular phones. But I have been wasting my time, for more than 2 hours each day, while waiting for RJ's dismissal bell. So I decided to look for a phone that functions like a computer. And yes, I found one that is not that expensive!

I just bought a Nokia E63. It has Quick Office Application. I usually get weird stares from nannies, whenever I open my laptop, in the fetchers area at my son's school. I can now create my documents, spreadsheets or presentations in the fetching area in peace!

Although I love paperbacks more than ebooks, a paperback is as heavy as a mini laptop! My new phone has a mobile PDF application installed! I can read my ebooks on my celphone, no need to carry paperbacks in my bag, how cool is that!

The list of likes, for my new phone, goes on and on and on! Love it, love it, love it!

investing in mutual funds

A mutual fund is an investment scheme where a group of investors pool their money and hire a portfolio manager. The manager invests the pooled money in securities such as stocks, bonds, money market instruments and similar assets. The fund manager buy and sell stocks and securities according to the investment objectives stated in its prospectus.

Investing in mutual fund is a way for investors-like-me, who don’t have the resources or the time to buy individual stocks, to get a piece of the market.

But of course, there are advantages and disadvantages alike in mutual fund investing. Finding the right mutual fund company should not be considered lightly also.

The first step to mutual fund investing: prospectus. Start collecting and comparing - now.

how to pick the best stocks

I started trading stocks listed on the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) two years ago. I started investing my hard-earned money in Mutual Funds. But when I was researching online about investing, I got curious with stock-picking.

investing

I became a frequent visitor of forums, except those discussing about things like extenze side effects, where experienced investors also frequently give their advice about stock picking. That's my first step in picking the best stock, check what other investors are gaga about.

The next step: research about the company and the stock performance. Will give more details about this next time.

why i don't want to tutor my son

I have tutored kids as young as 6 years old as well as teenagers having diffuculty in math. I am a very patient tutor. But when it comes to tutoring my own son, who I love more than anybody in the whole universe, I don't have as much patience. I've talked with other tutors and they have the same sentiments as well -they enroll their kids to another tutor.
diamond
I guess it's because I know what he can and he can't do. I know that, 99.9% of the time, he's just too lazy to try to understand the lessons or do his homework. He waits for me to get angry -that's his cue to finally do his homework or show me that he really does understand the lesson. It breaks my heart when tears fall from his eyes. It's just a waste of precious time because at the end he always says, "That lesson is sooo easy!"

Can you recommend a tutor?

ellen and oprah's biggest fan

Me!

I am a big fan. There was a rerun of last year's Oprah episode, when Ellen was a guest, this afternoon. I had to finish it eventhough I was already running late in picking up my son from school. I just love that episode.

I love Ellen's energy, she is very funny! She must have drank something before the show because she has so much energy! I am sad though that the Oprah show will be off the air soon. Will surely miss her.

how not to have unsleepless nights

There are nights that I don't feel comfortable with our bed. The bed creakes all the time, blame it on me not on the springs. I am too lazy to use the spring plungers that comes with the bed. I have been planning to buy a bed made of wood. But I haven't found "the bed" yet.

wooden bed

I have been looking for like - forever. I am on the verge of throwing our bed out of the window. But I have to be patient. I don't want to invest on something that I wouldn't like later on. A wooden bed is not that cheap!

have kids? forget fine linens

Kids and fine linens does not, I repeat -does not, go together.

My son doesn't want grease or crumbs on his hands. A hankerchief or a tissue should always be present whenever he's eating something. I just don't understand why he automatically wipes his hands on the table cloth or his pants when all he has to do is reach beside his plate for the hankerchief or tissue paper.

matouk linens

Therefore, my dream of buying expensive linens will have to take a back seat for now. Until my son learns to wipe his hands properly.

surprise visit

Do you like surprise visits? It was never an issue for me but that feeling changed over the weekend. After eating lunch, day after my birthday, I feel like being lazy. I turned on the computer but I got interrupted before I even started browsing. My Dad was calling me from the living room. Apparently I have a visitor -a high school classmate that I haven't seen in more than 10 years! I haven't brushed my teeth, combed my hair and I am wearing something even Doby, the house-elf from HP, wouldn't even think of wearing! Thank God I already took a bath!

facial mask
I just changed my shirt and rushed outside. My classmate was with her husband and baby. They we're in the neighborhood so they decided to drop by and say hi. They only stayed for a few minutes and I was a bad host because I even forgot to offer them something to eat or drink. The baby was just smiling and cooing, in his stroller the whole time.

As much as I would like to get reacquainted with friends from years ago, I don't like to experience any surprise visits ever again.

am i adopted?

My Papa has a green thumb. The backyard soil, in our house in the city, is as dry as the sand in the desert. But he was able to grow plants well on that small space of unhealthy soil. He was able to harvest some vegetables and fruits. He also has flowery plants.

hibiscus
My Dad's Hibiscus plant

His brother also has a green thumb. My Uncle lives in Arizona. He also has a garden in his backyard just like my Dad.

horseradish
My Uncle's Horseradish plant

I think I'm adopted. I have tried, a lot of times, to grow plants in our condominium's balcony. I water the plants and  let it say "Hi!" to Mr. Sun everyday. But after just a few weeks, the plant dies. I don't have a green thumb like my Dad and his brother. But come to think of it, so does my sisters!

the best gift ever

Yesterday was my 34th birthday. I am not ashamed to admit that I am thirty-four years old already. "It's ok to be 40, as long as you look 30!" That line was from a television commercial of a famous beauty product.

Was I happy on my birthday? Of course!

What was the best gift that I received?

The best gift that I received were the greetings from my family and friends. The  greetings were sent on my mobile and posted on my social networking site accounts. At the strike of 12 midnight of September 11, the "Happy Birthday" greetings started pouring in!

To those who gave me the most wonderful birthday gift, Thank you!

i almost had a heart attack

8th of September

I couldn't wait for RJ's dismissal. I was already waiting for him, at his school, an hour and a half before the dismissal bell rings. Why was I early? His report card, grades for the first quarter, will be released today.

I already told him the night before that a numerical grade of 79 and lower is failing for me. He kept insisting that a grade of 75 is still passing.

report card

My heart was palpitating so much but I was worried I was going to faint already. I finally saw RJ going down the ramp. I feel like shouting, "Hurry! Give me that report card already!"

I heaved a sigh of relief. His lowest grade is 80, highest is 94! He still got an average of 89.

I will let him play his DSi this weekend.

why i don't join blog contests

I joined two contests Christmas of last year. I got my ego heart broken and decided not to take the risk again. I knew my work was better than the winners. My jaw dropped when I saw the winners' entries.

I only have two major, major reasons why I don't ever want to join blog contests again.

1. I can't stand waiting for the announcement of winners. I feel like hyperventilating everytime I'm about to check the site of the contest. Announcing the winner weeks after the contest is such a lame and yes, dirty! trick of forcing (yes, I said forcing!) other bloggers, who joined the contest, to daily visit the sponsor's blog. The sponsor should set a date as to when the names of the winners will be revealed. If the date has finally arrived and the sponsor can't announce the winners yet, a new and final date should then be set.

2. Winning depends on the hands of only one person. A courtroom, not here in our country though, has a jury to decide on a verdict. A beauty contest has more than one judge. These blog contests should therefore have more heads working to make a good and fair decision.

So there, I will not join a blog contest again. Well, not unless it's an all-expense paid Orlando vacations!

how time flies

I will be another year older waaah in exactly 4hours, 15minutes and 5seconds. Time does fly so fast. True, that I'll be a year older tomorrow. But I will definitely face that tomorrow with a much prettier wiser me! Do I feel old? Not really.

"Age is strictly a case of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter." So true, right? It's my birthday, so just please agree with me.

time flies so fast

What I am a bit worried about though are the l-i-n-e-s. Yes, the lines! There's not that much yet. But I do have to start looking for the best eye cream for wrinkles. Any suggestions?

THE MEMORARE

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help or sought your intercession, was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word incarnate, despise not my petitions, but, in your mercy, hear and answer me. Amen.

saturday 9 #1

This is my first time to join Saturday: 9, "Just A Silly Meme on a Saturday! and I am so excited to meet new friends!

Saturday 9: Half the Man I Used to Be

1. Do you feel that you are essentially the same person that your were ten years ago?

Not exactly. I am more mature and wiser now -- I hope!

2. Is there something that you have to give all or nothing to?

I will definitely give all the love, that I am capable of, to my son.

3. Have you ever gambled? What have you bet on and for how much?

I do take risks on the stock market. Is that considered as gambling?

4. Can you sleep anywhere or does it have to be in a bed?

No trouble sleeping anywhere. I can sleep on a mat, bed, tent. I do have trouble sleeping in other people's house though.

5. Tell us about the most disastrous or embarrassing first impression you've ever made on someone.

My Dad was talking to somebody and I thought he is my Uncle's driver. It turned out to be my Uncle, who is a very successful lawyer and has his own law firm.

6. Do you have a memorable "ripped clothing" moment in your life? No? How about in someone else's?

Nope, I don't have. Guess my life is boring, huh?

7. What's changed on your blog since its inception? ...a redo? ...a change of pace? ...or is it about the same?

Recently bought own domains for my two blogs.

8. If you could travel back in time and whisper something to yourself ten years ago, what would it be?

          Don't be stupid, girl!

9. Okay, let's have it! What's the craziest, most impulsive thing you've ever done?

I saw my ex-boyfriend (my boyfriend at that time) with another girl on the other side of the street. I ran after them, with my officemate running behind me. I caught up with them and I hit him hard on the head with the umbrella that I was holding. Not that crazy, but when I think about it now -- I think its pretty funny!

your dream for your child

My son wants to be a farmer when he grows up. That was his dream when he was in his terrible-two. Then he changed his mind - he would make a good taxi or bus driver someday. I was speechless at that time, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry! I want him to dream of something BIG for himself. I want him to accomplish more than what Papa or Mama accomplished.

When he was in preschool, I was finally able to breath a sigh of relief. His dreams, for his future, are becoming more in line with my dreams for him. But now that he's in 3rd grade, I've come to a great realization. I will be supportive with whatever career he choose in the future. Provided that he's happy with it and it's not dangerous like standing on top of steel buildings.

a must in every house

Everyone's home should be child-proofed even when a child is yet to be born. A toddler touches and plays with anything and everything. I thought our house was child-proofed already. Not until I got into an accident. My craft materials were kept in a place that RJ can't reach or even see. But I can reach it.

I was using a box cutter one day and at the same time telling RJ not to go near me. The second I lost concentration of what I was doing, the cutter cut the top of my thumb. I only felt the pain when I saw lots of blood gushing out of the deep wound. I panicked and shouted at my sister to help me. Thank God my sister, a registered nurse, was so calm and patient with me.

Specially designed safety cutter for precisely removing cardboard box tops
which includes a revolutionaly EDGE GUIDE that allows for precise cuts along the box edge.
A must in every home? Don't just child-proof your house, make it "accident-proof" for everyone.

birthday present

Samsung 3D
My birthday is just around the corner, Saturday of next week. I already made my birthday wishlist a few weeks back. But last night, I changed the top slot on my birthday wish. I was ready-for-battle when I turned on my laptop yesterday. I had a mission that I vowed to accomplish - search for an interesting topic to write on my blog. I was wasting my time, for almost an hour, hopping from one site to another. Until I reached a website that made my day.

I have been wanting to replace our 10-year old television set. And when I saw Samsung 3D HDTV, that want turned into I-want-it-right-this-minute! So yes, this is officially my #1 wish for my birthday this year.

where is the lifeguard?

My son joined a swim club for a year (or two- I don't remember anymore). The swimmers usually train at PhilSports swimming pool. What I always notice is the empty lifeguard chair. Where are the lifeguards? They are IN the pool conducting swim classes. The payment, of course, goes straight to their pockets.

A major renovation of the swimming and diving pool was done early part of this year. The pool area was closed for a few months. When we visited the pool, when it was finally open to the public again, the same scene greeted me. Yes, the lifeguard chair was new. But the lifeguards, I believe there are two on the governments payroll, are in the pool doing their sideline job.

Everyone who swims or has plans to swim at PhilSports swimming pool should get an insurance first before taking the plunge!
