this sums up my day

I was feeling lazy today. And yes, I wasn't productive at all. The funny thing is, I don't regret it. Maybe tomorrow, I will. But for now, I'll enjoy my lazy day. Goodnight everyone!

Don't forget to join the Mom-ME time meme. The link is already up.

MMT #2 - Mom-ME Time, 29 May 2011

I'm back online, I just had my ME-time!

I didn't have to go far and didn't spend anything for my alone time today. In fact, I didn't even step out of the house. I spent my ME-time sleeping for more than an hour. I wasn't intending to sleep after lunch but my eyes felt so heavy already. I was planning to finish some work but I gave in and decided to get a few minutes of shuteye.

Pink Nintendo DSi

Pink Nintendo DSi

My son has a white Nintendo DS, which is got broken eons ago, and a blue Nintendo DSi. My niece has her own Nintendo DSi that's colored pink. Pink is her favorite color so it's a no-brainer that she'll chose a pink colored DSi.

Playing Nintendo's together is my son and niece's bonding time this summer break. They download the same games and connect it, don't ask me because I don't know how -will ask them later, so they can play it together. They can see the same things on their individual screens, how cool is that right?

I'm waiting when they'll have their next huge fight. But it hasn't happened yet. I guess growing up does that, they now get along well. Thanks you Nintendo for that!

why one needs to have a yearly physical checkup

I was saddened with the news that a cousin died last Saturday. She was diagnosed with brain tumor twelve years ago. She went to New York in 2007 for a brain surgery. She was only a few years older than me. The more sad part is her mom doesn’t know that she’s gone already. The family is planning to keep it a secret from Aunt M because she’s also sick. She already had two heart attacks.

This reminds me that I need to have a medical checkup. A physical exam depends on the age, sex and health of a person.

medical exam

Is a yearly physical exam really necessary? I read this on a WSJ (Wall Street Journal) article dated 8 January 2009.
Ned Calonge, a family doctor and chair of the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, there is no study to show that the best way to deliver effective preventive services is through an annual physical. But, he said, there’s probably no harm in having one either. “A reasonable way for patients to approach preventive services is to ask their doctor what they need,” he told us.

But as the saying goes, Prevention is better than cure. It’s still better to be aware of a disease or an illness on its early stage. To stop it from spreading and to have more time in curing it.

the problem with copy and paste

I had a few hours to visit other blogs yesterday. I decided to hit two birds with one stone. Bloghop and invite mommy bloggers to join the Mom-ME time meme that I’m hosting on this blog.  I made a uniform invitation, to join the meme, that I copied and pasted below the comments that I left on mommy blogs.

wrong spelling

Can you see what’s wrong with the comment? Look closer.

I was done posting comments, on a handful of mommy blogs, when I noticed that I misspelled one word. Embarrassing! Lesson learned: when leaving a comment on other blogs, check spelling before clicking the submit button.

FYI: I checked the spelling of misspelled and embarrassing, both are correct.

*I deleted the first sentence on my comment, for privacy concerns, since I just screen grabbed from another blogger's blog.

MMT #1 : Mom-Me Time, 22 May 2011

Welcome to our first-ever Mom-Me Time meme.

I was able to have my ME time, a few nights ago, when RJ decided to sleep early. I was online on facebook for almost an hour reading on what’s new with the PMC group.

PMC

Thank you Mommy Ruby, founder of the group and the mommy behind Pinay Mommy Online, for letting me join this community of Pinay Mommy bloggers. The group has helped me learn more about SEO, tweaking and monetizing my blogs and a lot of other things about blogging.

Hopefully RJ will sleep early again tonight so I can spend my Me-time with the PMC Mommies.

acne, adolescent problem

When I was in high school, a typical school day for me revolves around boarding house-school-boarding house. I seldom go out so it was a big question mark, for me at that time, why I have acne all over my young face.

acne problem

The pollution in the city and the food that I eat may have aggravated the acne problem brought about by the hormonal changes that I was experiencing during puberty. Early treatment is supposedly needed to lessen the overall impact of acne. But my Mom never allowed me to use anything on my face except for soap. I never visited a dermatologist also.

Because of that, I have acne and pimple scars.

My son, at his young age, has been asking me about pimples and acne. “I don’t want to have pimples like the big boys in school.” He’s now aware that he needs to soap his face properly and rinse it well to avoid having pimples early on his young life.

And when his first pimple shows up, I will allow him to use anything on his face provided that a licensed dermatologist prescribes it.

kitchen chair cushions

RJ has asked me, probably a million times already, to put cushions on our dining room chairs. He complains that his behind gets very painful with just a few minutes of sitting on the said chairs during meal time.

My mom asks a seamstress to go to our house, me and RJ are on vacation here in the province, whenever she needs to have something sewed. We have a sewing machine here because my grandmother, bless her soul, used to be a seamstress.

kitchen chair cushions

My mom bought new fabrics a few days back. The seamstress, Nana C, was called to sew curtains, chair covers and to alter some clothes. If I only knew she’s working here today, I would have bought some fabrics and have her make kitchen chair cushions similar with the one that I saw online.

I’ll go with my mom next time she visit the store where she buys her fabrics. I have to buy the materials, needed to make the cushions, so that I’m ready next time my mom calls Nana C to sew some things for her.

a cup of freshly brewed coffee

My eyes may be wide open already but my mind was still very much asleep when I woke up this morning. I would have crawled from our bedroom to the kitchen but no, I didn't want to crawl on the floor.
coffee mug
zcache
I need a cup of freshly brewed coffee, instant will do the job as well, for my mind to function early in the morning.  Caffeine injects adrenaline into the system to make a person feel alert and increases the brain's cognitive function. A cup of tea won't shake off the cobwebs of sleep for me.

If you're planning on calling or visiting early in the morning, make sure I had my first cup of coffee already.

Why can't I log in my Blogger account?

My blog is all messed up!

contest prize suggestions

Because the Mother's Day contest that I hosted on this blog was a success, I'm once again thinking of having another contest in a few months. But before anything else, I would like to give a shout out to all the wonderful mommies who flocked this site during the submission of entries and until the voting ends. Thank you very much!

Winner's Badge

Before deciding on the mechanics for the next contest, promise it's as easy as the first one, I want to make a survey. What would you like to win on my next contest? A bodystockings perhaps? A bigger cash prize?

I would love to hear your suggestions in the comments section.

I need a new camera

I have a Nikon Coolpix S52 camera. It was working fine two days ago. When I turned it on yesterday, after charging the battery, "Lens cover error" appeared on the screen.

Having a "Lens error" message display on the camera's LCD display indicates a problem with the camera lens mechanism. This situation generally requires that the camera be sent to a Nikon Service Department for repair. Before doing this however, be sure to check these situations below:

1.One possible reason for this error is if the camera is switched on and the lens unit is prevented from extending. The camera will struggle for a second to extend the lens, then report the problem. Inspect the lens for any obvious obstruction, then turn the camera off, then on again. Usually, simply switching the camera Off then On again is enough to correct this problem.
2.Remove and recharge the battery. Retest.

If this does not help, then we regret the camera must be sent to our Nikon Service department as there are no user serviceable parts on Nikon Coolpix cameras. ~support.nikonusa.com
I already inspected the lens, turned off and on the camera, removed and retested the battery, tapped the camera as suggested on a discussion group, but it still has the same error.

Does this mean that I have to buy a new one? I guess I have to. I'll look weird taking photos outside the house using my laptop.

Nostalgic Marveling: Chubskulit
If giving up a career is what it takes to become a good MoM, you can consider me as one. I gave up my permanent job in the Philippines and chose not to work when I came here because I want to be able to spend full time with my children while they still need me. Soon, they will have their own world and my husband I will return to being just US again.

I am a dual career mom & we have four off spring & being a mom of four kids was not that easy & ‘ve gone this far. After I gave birth to my eldest,I suppose I could have quit my job,w/c would either end or seriously interrupt my career. But I chose to moonlight as a career woman or, if you like, moonlight as a mother.I don’t know w/c.But in my case I saw a strong reasons for not quiting the job, aside from the fact that we really need the income.

I must be the best mom ever because my little girl is always happy and such a sweet girl. I can tell that I’m doing the great job by her smile, laughters and her being talkative at the age of 2. No dull moments when we are awake together.

I’m not sure if I am credible enough to shout to the world why I am the best mom ever, but when my husband made me a poem on Mother’s Day two years ago, I got convinced that indeed, through my own ways, I am the best mom in my daughter’s father’s eyes and that is reason enough to humbly believe. This is the entire poem that the husband made for me on Mother’s Day 2009; read it for yourself and you decide, lol:

I am the best mom ever because even though I got pregnant out of wedlock, abortion didn’t cross my mind. Instead I welcomed my son into my life, took care of myself as I should in order to give my son the best gift I could give, a very healthy life when he was born. Most young women who gets pregnant tried to abort their child in order to avoid the responsibilities and the shame, but I faced them and stood upon it all.

What made me the best Mom among all the moms in the world is that I am successful in raising and bringing up very close relationships to my two half-blood sons. The bonding between them is immeasurable and inseparable. I really exert all my knowledge and effort to bring them very close, to love each other in harmony to get away from sibling rivalry :)

To say that I am the best mum among all the mums in the world would mean I am not saying the absolute truth + that I am inflating my ego unnecessarily, but hey I am the only mum my little one got, so I guess it is okay to daydream once in awhile. See, I’ve only been a mother for 1 year, 8 months + 6 days (yep, I’ve been counting!) plus the additional 9 months whilst my son is still in my tummy. So, all in all, that still makes me a greenhorn, a novice, a total noob!

I may have some mistakes in life as a person or might wrong in any of my decisions but for the good for my children, I will never go wrong. And that's the real me as a MOTHER. I may not be the best person in the eyes of others but I can be a perfect mother that only my kids can tell .

In my heart, and in my soul, I firmly believe that I am the best mother in the world because I take after my mom’s personal parenting style. She seems to have passed on to me her knack for selflessly taking care of her kids. As mothers, I also think we all have earned bragging rights, so now, I am claiming mine.

I am the best mom among the moms in the world because my daughter who’s only 5-years old would always tell me “Momma, you’re my bestfriend!” I try my best to be able to keep it that way because I believe that if she’s able to open up to me about everything, I don’t have to worry much even when she’s already a grown up and finds her own friends outside home. But of course, I still count on God’s guidance for me to be able to bring her up the way He wants her to be, and I am sure that he will listen to my prayer as a mother’s prayer is one of the most powerful prayers in the world.

I am not perfect but I am doing my best to be the Mom that my child needs me to be. I gave up the career that my parents have invested in for so many years and instead became a nurse, teacher, cook, playmate and friend all at the same time but not complaining a bit. And if I have to live my life all over again, I will choose the same career which is MOTHERHOOD.

Lovingly, Mama: lovingly mama
I am the best Mom ever because I try to follow the parenting example in the Bible, “..do not exasperate your children (Colossians 3:21).” I believe that many children become rebellious because they are exasperated in the way rules are implemented in the house. I try to make clear cut rules for Dindin in a manner that she understands and I try to stand by them so that she will not have doubts, questions or problems in obeying them.

Small and Simple Things: Cecile
According to my husband, I am the best Mom among all the mothers in the world because I almost gave up my life just to bring my only child/son into the world. How? Although my doctor told me not to get pregnant again because it would be very risky to me and the baby due to my health issues, I did it anyway because I know I am doing the right thing....which is to help Heavenly Father (God) bring one of HIS spirit child into this world. Read more on Life is Good and Beautiful. My son also told me in many occasions that "I am the Best Mom" because I do everything for him. He always appreciate the things I do for him. Chronicles of a not-so-perfect mom and wife: Raya
I am the best mom ever simply because the word “mama” can be heard at least two hundred times in our house daily. I am called when they need to show me something exciting, when they are bleeding or hurting, when things need fixing or when they could find what they’re looking for, when they’re ecstatic or overly excited. I am there everytime I am called like I am some super power being in different places at the same time– and I work day and night shifts!

Hearts Content of A Mama: Mel
I want the best care for my kids and I love being a stay at home mom especially that I have a toddler and I am pregnant again to my second baby and I know that kids at that very young age are very dependent to a Mother’s love and touch rather than other people taking care of them. I have learned that lesson based from the experience I had when I was a child that my Mom is working in a government office, she is the bread winner in our family, and she spent time with us, but I still felt lack of motherhood attention at that time because she wants us busy in our studies alone and she tends to blame it to us if we are doing poorly. I dont want to criticize my Mom because she did her own choice of what is right for us, but I am jealous of how my friends excel in their studies and talents, and as I mingle with their familes, I discovered that, even though they are poor or rich, it came to one conclusion, they are really good because their Mothers gave their best attention and more support to them right from the very beginning of their age.

Why I'm the best Mom ever? It's very simple,Every woman can have a child but it takes a special person to be a MoM.When GOD created me,He's thinking of my boys and I am forever grateful that He gave me a chance to experienced motherhood because not everyone can. A Woman's World: Cecile
What makes me the best mom could be my share in shaping my children up by teaching them to love by serving others without expecting anything in return, being joyful in the midst of disappointments, having peace by trusting God, being a little more patient with trials and tests, being gentle towards others despite others showing the opposite, showing goodness instead of revenge, having faith in God at all times, being meek when confronted with arrogance, having self control especially at times when needed, and obeying God over men even to the point of disobeying me if what I say is against God. This is so they will develop godly character which will also shape their children and their children’s children forming a better world. (Gal. 5:22-23, Acts 5:29)

If the best mom in the world is gross, a doofus, a nutcase, nerdy, bossy, unkind, an old-fart, overbearing, creepy, really just a kid herself, with a dash of selfish, then I guess I’m the one!

I’m gross because I’ve scooped up poop and caught barf on intermittent occasions, and developed a taste for blood too; a doofus for being fluent in 3-year old Sophia (Ah nem, ah fahteh, ah sah… = In the name of the Father, the Son…); a total nutcase for doing crazy craft activities with the kids; nerdy for reading a lot of stories with them; bossy for making them pick up their toys or fixing their beds or eating their meals; unkind because Zach has to study his lessons and do his homework first before watching his cartoons; one heck of an old-fart for being big on birthdays and Easter and Christmas and family dates; overbearing because I smother my kids with hugs and kisses again and again and again; and really creepy for watching my kids sleep every now and then. I’m really just a kid (we eat cookies and drink giggles in bed sometimes), but for sneaking in some me-time once in a while so my sanity doesn’t break, it also makes me a very selfish mom… the best mom!

If all children will have a mom like me, I bet this world will be a better place to live. As a preschool teacher and out of school youth volunteer, I impart my knowledge to these kids and encourage them to enhance their talents. I am their ultimate confidence booster, as my daughter described.

I Embrace LIFE: Nuts
A lot of opportunities knock at my door here and abroad but I chose to become a full time mom for my children. My mother worked abroad while we were still young and when the time came that we could be together, she got sick and left us and joined the creator at a very early time. It’s hard without a mother and I don’t want my kids to feel what I’ve gone through.

I am the best mom ever because I chose my eldest daughter’s life over the possibly brighter future of my 19 year old self. I was 19 when I had my eldest daughter and regardless of the embarrassment and condemnation of the traditional people of the early 90s, I chose to give birth to her and raised her by myself.

Mommy #23

Spinning Lovely Days:
I’m the best mom in the world because I dedicated my child to God and that is the best thing I can ever do for her. Even as I endeavor to turn the stewardship of motherhood into a form of worship, I recognize the fact that as much as I love my daughter, I cannot ever love her better or more than God does. Accepting that my efforts and my understanding will always fall short, I’ve made a daily plea for God’s help and guidance a habit, knowing that with God in charge instead of myself, my daughter is in the best hands ever.

skywatch friday

My first-ever skywatch friday entry.

This is where my son RJ sometimes swims during weekends.

cellular phone accessory

My birthday present for myself last year -a cellular phone. I wasn't planning on buying a new one but my old phone wasn't working anymore. So far, I'm happy with the phone that I chose. It's the cheapest cellular phone unit on the executive series of Nokia.

Nokia E63

I'm not a cellular phone addict so I'm not going to replace this phone yet. I want to buy cellular phone accessories that will help me make this phone usable for years. I want a cellular phone case that automatically locks when the phone is inserted. One that's magnetic, similar to a blackberry case, but so far I haven't found one.

I'm planning to keep this phone longer that the last one. My old-doesn't-work-anymore phone was given to me by my Uncle D, his extra mobile phone, and I had that phone for 5 years.

finally! i can now relax

Yes, I did it! I was able to beat the deadline.

reading, relax

I can finally relax. I'll read RJ's Diary of a Wimpy Kid before going to bed. He already has the complete set, including the Wimpy Kid Movie book. I paid a good deal of money for that collection so I better enjoy the books as well.

who likes cramming?

I don't.

I'm not a fan, never will be, of cramming or being late. But there are times when these situations are inevitable. Like right now. The day is almost over, been online since I woke up this morning, but I'm just halfway through with everything that I was planning to finish at the end of the day.

No, I'm not stressed-out with payday loans payment. But I do have to write two articles that needs to be submitted at the end of the day.

What have I been doing for the past few hours? I got busy inviting and re-inviting mommy bloggers to join my Mother's Day contest. There are already 15 entries as of this writing. I'm excited to see who'll get the highest vote this Sunday, Mother's Day.

I better start writing the articles. I still have a few hours before deadline. Nothing to stress much about, right?

New Safety Video of Philippine Airlines

I don't remember when I last travelled with Philippine Airlines. I saw their new safety video yesterday on our way to Bicol.

No more boring demonstration on the aisle. Even small kids will better understand the safety reminders.

sleepy and tired

I had an early start today. I was still dreaming about the best pre workout supplement, randomly followed it while visiting other sites last night, when the cellphone alarm woke me up at four-thirty in the morning. I was still very sleepy, hit the sack at around 11:30 pm the previous night, but we have a flight to Bicol at six-thirty. I had no choice but to pry my eyes open.

I already have ugly dark circles under my eyes. I don't like to look like a walking zombie anymore. I know I've planned this a few months back but I will definitely start this tonight. I will start sleeping early.

Mother's Day contest

The best answer to this question will win $20 on the second Sunday of this month, Mother's Day 2011, the 8th of May.

It's very obvious that the question will give a boastful answer. Let's see how you can turn it into a humble one. This is your chance to pat yourself on the back and say, "Good Job!". You owe it to yourself to acknowledge your worth. Before expecting others to appreciate you, YOU should be the first one to appreciate yourself.

Let this be a challenge to you. Mommies don't back out of a challenge.

Mechanics

2. Place the contest banner on top of your post. Copy the HTML code above.

what to do with a know-it-all blogger

A know-it-all or know-all is a person who believes that he/she has an accurate comprehension of a topic and/or situation when in reality, his/her comprehension is inaccurate and limited. ~wikipedia
I've encountered a lot of know-it-all's in the blogging and social networking world. There was this blogger who gave a comment, in one of my posts, totally disaggreeing with what I've written. Corrections are highly welcome in my blog but the way she wrote the comment made my eyebrow shooting through the roof! There was no finesse at all. Her sentence was synonymous to, "You're very wrong, I'm very right even without any scientific reference. I just know I'm right." It was a health/beauty topic.

know-it-all

What happened with her comment? I sent it straight to the spam folder.

This is my blog afterall, my personal space in the online world. If you visit someone elses house, do you tell  the owner that her house is a total mess based on your own opinion and without any advise from the experts -a fengshui master or an interior decorator perhaps?

I didn't bother publishing her comment and commenting on it. According to  Stanislaw Jerzy Lec, a Polish writer, "The only fool bigger than the person who knows it all is the person who argues with him".
