Our senior citizen parents very much deserve to receive awesome gifts during christmas or their birthday. But it doesn't have to be just any gift that we can grab at the last minute. It should be something that would make their eyes sparkle with excitement once they receive it. They gave us all the happiness and love they're capable of giving so it's also right that we give them something in return.
Here are some gift suggestions:
Scapbook
They love to go down memory lane. When my grandmother turned 90 years old, I thought of giving her a picture scrapbook. I got my sister's help, we looked for pictures of everyone in the family and made picture collage. We also included her travel pictures and a dedication page where everyone in the family wrote a short love letter for grandma.
Exercise Machine
They're not as strong as they used to but they still need to exercise regularly albeit shorter and not as rigorous as when they were younger. A threadmill or a stationary bike are the most appropriate machine that they can use at home. Although their eyes might not light up with excitement when they see your gift, I'm positively sure they will thank you later on.
Gardening Tools and Books
Most seniors believe they have a green thumb. So why not buy them the most high-tech gardening tools and newest books that you can find. It's ok to splurge, you might get lucky, they might volunteer to do your garden next.
Tablet
Some older people I know are online 24/7. They have their own accounts on facebook, twitter, google plus and some other social networking sites. Aside from chatting with relatives in other countries, who are also their age, they're especially a big fan of facebook and online games. They will love you even more with this gift. Just don't input your credit card information on that tablet.

i prefer to give the scrapbooking materials, then we'd work on it together... :D
Great gift suggestions for our loved ones. Sometimes we forget that even as we grow old, they are getting even older.
I agree with you most specially on the tablet part. Technology has also been senior friendly. Now even with ipads and tablet notebooks have apps that can be enjoyed by them.
I admire the elderly who like receiving tech gifts like tablets. That is a testament to their willingness to embrace change and learn new things.
I love the idea of a scrapbook!! What about picture frames with family photos??
I didnt think of a tablet, but you are right...GREAT IDEA!! Last year we got grandma an ipod with her oldies loaded on it and some speakers and she liked that a lot.
These are some great suggestions for seniors! Thanks! It's always hard to come up with ideas for those that "have everything"!
These were really nice suggestions my Mom will really love to receive a tablet this Christmas so she can chat with our family overseas =)
I must say, these are good gifts for seniors. Though I don't belong to this category at the moment but I will surely ppreciate if someone gives me a gardening tools and garden books. I do love tending flowering plants.
I wholeheartedly agree with #4! A tablet knows no age limit!
I remember the other day,I saw a group of senior men busy with their tablet during a break from their tennis game and I was so amazed. I am just thinking of buying one for my mom, for now she is usually busy with FB chat.
tablet for them, i think that is a good present for my mom and for my dad, gardening tools , he loves to garden so this gift will make him happy.
Thank you for the wonderful ideas!

I think it would also be nice to give them exercise machine to encourage them to be fit and healthy.
That's awesome gift ideas for seniors. Gardening tools are helpful but Tablet really rocks their age!
I'd rather choose scrapbooking kasi baka naman lalong masira mata ng lolo ko for playing haha
My mother will probably appreciate getting an exercise machine more than anything else because she's stills active at her age of 70.
These are such great gift suggestions but I know my mom will love the gardening tools best!
Let's add round trip ticket to Europe!!! all expenses paid! :))
Great Tips. I may have to think what should I give to my old man (dad) this Christmas. hmmm... Samsung S3 - yep, that would be a good for him since he usually do some stuff on my phone. so he needs one. :)
I prefer to give SCRAPBOOK for my LOLO and LOLA. I am sure they still love to do scrap booking.
I am fascinated when an elderly becomes high tech and evolves with the changing time too.
For me, scrapbook is the best! I made a scrapbook for my Mom's 60th birthday and she was so delighted to receive it. That's 4 years ago. She even cried just looking at the old photos. When my Dad turned 60, I made a movie and burned it in a CD. He was also in tears upon watching it.
It's more sentimental and thoughtful if we give our oldies something very personal like those.
My parents are both senior citizens already. I usually give them money as birthday gifts or Christmas gifts so they can buy what they want, but I'm sure my Tatay will enjoy gardening tools and books because he loves gardening.
we bought our father a machine, he did not touch. maybe he was afraid to lose his balance as he just recovered from stroke. but with my mom, she will surely love books because she loves to read (inserted bills would even make it more awesome for her hahaha)
I only have one "senior" whom I give presents to: my grandma. I doubt she'll appreciate a tablet, so I usually just take her out to a fancy dinner :)
gadget will be nice, new adventure and experience for them, just like how my mom enjoyed online games when I made her an FB acct. lol..
my dad can definitely benefit from exercise machines that won't hurt his knees. ever since turning 65, his knees have definitely weakened because of arthritis and osteoperosis.
our grand parents deserves to have the best gift for all the love they have given to us
As an avid scrapbooker, I LOVE the scrapbook idea!!! My Grandma will definitely be getting one for Christmas!!!... Thanks!
Hmm.. I don't think my parents would be happy if I give them a tablet. They have this character of not wanting to learn to new things. hehe.. I love the scrapbook idea. That's to remind them of people they must have already forgotten. :)
My kuya raised me, so it was always him who I've been showering with gifts all these years. From the list that you've made for your parents, I already did the scrapbook. :)
I super agree with the scrapbook.. Something personalized and meaningful.. In fact even just a simple greeting card with a message could be better than other expensive products :)
Tablet for seniors? LOL
I'll probably get them some recliner instead if I can afford. That would help them rest on a lazy day much better while watching TV.
my mom is not too keen on things...but she is so busy with her advocacies, she needs a secretary...this I think is what I should gift her with. A human assistant :))
