Save on Electricity Cost with CFL Lights

I was browsing the different early morning news on TV and a news report about the energy department giving away free CFL lights caught my attention. I googled it but can’t find a news about it though.

CFL_bulbI have not used incandescent bulbs for years because it apparently consume so much energy. CFL lights, although more expensive, lasts longer than traditional bulbs. Using CFL lights also lowers down a households electrical consumption. I wonder why manufacturers don't just discontinue the production of yellow lights to help solve the problem of using too much electricity. They should just develop CFL lights that costs as much as the cheap incandescent bulbs that a lot of people still use.

But there apparently is a downside to using CFL according to a July 2011 study:
Once broken, a compact fluorescent light bulb continuously releases mercury vapor into the air for weeks to months, and the total amount can exceed safe human exposure levels in a poorly ventilated room, according to study results reported in Environmental Engineering Science, a peer-reviewed online only journal published monthly by Mary Ann Liebert, Inc. ~greenwashinglamps.wordpress.com/2012/09/02/defra-cfl-faq/
Good thing I’ve never broken a CFL bulb in the house. And based on the study, the mercury exposure is not safe for humans only if the bulb gets broken in a poorly ventilated room. Still, safe material handling should always be main priority when changing and disposing a CFL bulb. The study may or may not be wrong but it’s still better to be safe than sorry.

We use this kind of bulbs in our house. It does save bills and energy efficient. My husband is also a lineman and he knows what bulbs to use :-)

Yes, we used to have all these high consumed lights before too but as soon as we know it was the reason why our electricity bill went-up we switched to long life and greener bulbs. It helps lower down our E. bills and for that it is worth switching to economise high electric bills. Oh yes, I kinda know about that broken CFL can be harmful if too much exposure to it. So, we should take note to this and start using a more home-friendly bulbs.

That's what we use in the house though. I know Mercury is not good for our health so does a lot of things in this world. We just have to be careful and be responsible though.

There are always pros and cons in everything we use. Incandescent bulbs are still used nowadays for they are cheaper and safer to dispose.

Yes, they're really a good alternative for bulbs, I heard about this before that you can really save electricity using this type of bulb. Actually, this is what we have at home right now.

that is exactly what we have. we conserve more energy using that kind of bulb. it is advisable to use that if we dont want to pay more to our next electricity bill.

We use this bulb when we went for a vacation. Let the kitchen lighted up the entire time for security reason it's ok coz they're less in electric used.

i would like to have those for free too! yes they are quite expensive and saves you electricity too. but its poisonous too. it needs proper disposal to avoid any mercury leaks, and or course proper installation.

We are using all CFL bulbs in our house. They have proper disposal here for this kind of bulb. We can bring it to the dumpster site and they have ways there to dispose of it.
