I just read Bo Sanchez's My Maid Invests in the Stock Market and I cannot help but agree on everything, well almost everything, he said in the book. It's very hard indeed to say "no, sorry, I don't have spare cash", when someone we know needs monetary help. And that's the last we see of our hard-earned money because they either don't have any plans of paying it or worse they get angry when we tell them we need the money already.

We don't all own a very successful business, like a food cart business which is very in-demand right now. Farewell, Harry Potter!

So I’m down to my last few chapters of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the last book. I might read The Hunger Games next or the Percy Jackson books, but I’m 100% sure that I’m going to read Harry Potter again, for the third time!, though not in the coming months. I have to let my brain forget the story first before reading it again.

I’ve also watched the Harry Potter movies, not the 8th though since I’m not yet done with the book, and I feel like tweeting or posting a status on my facebook, of my disappointment, everytime a scene that’s totally different from the book is shown. Cho didn’t tell Umbridge about Dumbledore’s Army. And Harry wasn’t “Harry” when he attended Bill and Fleur’s wedding, he drank polyjuice potion to disguise as another boy. And Neville didn’t give the gilliweed to Harry, during the Tri-Wizard Competition, it was Dobby. 

I love the book more than the movie. Although it helped put a face on the character of the books. I was disappointed though when I found out that Robert Pattinson played the part of Cedric Diggory. Cedric was described as probably the most handsome character in the book and I don’t think the actor who played Edward in the Twilight series is handsome, not at all.

Harry Potter or Hunger Games

As I've said on my earlier posts, I'm re-reading Harry Potter. And I also got curious with all the good reviews that I’ve been reading about The Hunger Games. I'm now on the fourth book of Harry Potter, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, but felt the urge to take a peak on the first book of The Hunger Games Trilogy. Scanned it. Got bored.

What are they raving so much about this book then? Is something wrong with me that I find it boring? Or maybe because I jumped suddenly from Harry Potter to The Hunger Games? I’ll try again in a few months, when I’m done with all the Harry Potter books.

Too much books, too little space

This is my brown for the week. Our overflowing bookshelf.

When we transferred to this new house, we already left one overflowing bookshelf in the other house. I now again need to buy another bookshelf. RJ has so many books. I stopped buying when I discovered iBooks but RJ's collection is growing everyday! The downside of having a son who is a voracious reader, books these days aren’t cheap. Last week alone, I bought 4 books for him. Can't say no since I am a book addict as well.

I don’t always buy books that he wont learn something from. Comic books and magazines, maybe once a month. But books that are informative, I don’t hesitate to buy him those.

Back to the bookshelf, I don’t think another one will fit inside our 1 bedroom condominium unit. Unless I give away our dining and living room furniture, we can fit around 5 or more bookshelves in the living and dining room area.

I guess I just need to let go some of the books.

I can finally relax. I'll read RJ's Diary of a Wimpy Kid before going to bed. He already has the complete set, including the Wimpy Kid Movie book. I paid a good deal of money for that collection so I better enjoy the books as well.

Michelle Obama: First Lady, Health Book Author

United States First Lady Michelle Obama signed a deal with the Crown Publishing Group, a unit of Random House publishers, for a book about the famous White House vegetable garden and her efforts to promote healthy eating.

The book, which is currently untitled, will be published in April 2012, Crown officials said in a statement Wednesday.  The book will feature photographs of the garden in all four seasons. The first lady also plans to share some of her family’s healthy recipes and showcase community, urban and school gardens from around the country, Crown officials said. Chigaco Tribune

The First Lady received no advance and has opted to donate the proceeds, and will donate all proceeds to to an undetermined charity foundation.

I finally got a copy of Mini Shopaholic. AlthoughI have a love/hate relationship with Becky Brandon (nee Bloomwood), I got sad when I finished reading Shopaholic and Baby. I love her funny side but I hate when she spends too much.

Shopaholic is a series of books by Sophie Kinsella. Becky Bloomwood is the main character of the first five books while her daughter Minnie takes the limelight on the most current book published in 2010. Becky is a shopaholic and addicted to anything that's fab. She'll buy anything from a simple toothpick to a Playbook

as long as it looks fab and expensive.

I'm halfway through the book. I will miss the adventures of Becky and her horrible, which turns out succesful in the end, financial decisions. Until we meet again Becky Bloomwood Brandon!

why i buy books for my son

I again bought a book, a Geronimo Stilton comic book, that RJ read for less than 30 minutes. Only. With the price that I had to pay for that book, I thought he would finish longer than that. But come to think of it, books are investments also, right?

I'd rather buy books than toys for RJ. He learns a lot with books. He gets to know important people, he can travel to anywhere he wants, he can do new things (eg. origami) just by reading a book.

So yes, buying that Geronimo Stilton book is an investment that I shouldn't regret.

There were other guests who look amazing at their age. One was even in her 90's but she looked nowhere her age. Their advice on how to not look your age boils down to one thing: ACCEPTANCE.

I hope I can accept my age when every part of my body is being pulled down by gravity. I am nearing my 40th anniversary of being a human. I want to look amazing when I reach 40. *fingers crossed*

That is my status right now on my facebook page. And because of that status update, I now have two chapters of the new John Grisham novel - The Confession. It's still not out! So I, together with a few others, are so lucky to read the first two chapters of the book before it get released.

A visit to the mall or the supermarket will never be complete without purchasing books. I am currently reading The Devil Wears Prada and yes I did purchase it from a second-hand bookstore. I noticed though that the movie is quite different from the paperback. Do they always do that? Change the storyline of the book when they make it into a movie?

Although, I have to admit, I like the movie better than the paperback. I do like the storyline of the book but some chapters have irrelevant paragraphs.

I highly recommend this book if you don't have anything better to read or do.

No, I don't think I resemble a book or any form of insect. And I definitely am not dull! I do admit that I am fond of books and spends my leisure time reading a good book. So, I guess you can call me a bookish and/or a bookworm.

Reading a book makes me forget my worries for the future and my problems at the present time. It's a wonderful avenue to learn new things as well.

I'll choose paperback anytime. I've tried reading ebooks, a couple of times, but it's really not for me. My eyes get watery after a page or two. I am a big fan of detective, mystery or CIA/FBI inspired stories. When I can't find a good book, after doing my weekly rounds of my favorite second-hand bookstores, I borrow my sister's Johanna Lindsey books.

I went to my favorite second-hand bookstore last week. I was on my hands and knees, because the really cheap books are under the table, and I found this book! My eyes almost popped out of it's sockets. Why?

10 pesos! Glorious indeed! Approximately $0.22 as of exchange rate today. If you're not a fan of the Bridget Jones movies (me not a fan!) but the book is this cheap -- will you buy it?

Well, I did! What about you? Will you buy it too?

vampires and werewolves

These are the main characters of the Twilight Saga. Plus the human of course.

Yup, I've read it. Haven't watched the movies though.

I didn't plan on reading the books by Stephenie Meyer when I learned that it was a love story. I have been a love story retiree for years, I am into suspense and mystery novels now. But my friend R has a collection of the Twilight Saga, she let me borrow it last weekend.

What's the verdict? Do I like it?

I love the Twilight book. What I love about this book is the unconditional and selfless love between the vampire (Edward) and the human (Bella). I shed a few tears because of the intensity of their love for each other. Ok, I admit it, I am a sucker for love stories. That's the reason why I don't like reading love stories anymore, I am such a cry baby.

I was so excited to read the next book, New Moon. But it was a disappointment, for me though, because this is more of Jacob's story, the werewolf bestfriend of Bella. I did finish the book, Edward resurfaced from his hibernation towards the end of the book. Edward left Bella because he doesn't want Bella to get hurt anymore.

I don't even remember the title of the 3rd book. I got so bored with it I decided to NOT read it halfway through the book.

Breaking Dawn is the 4th and last book of the Twilight Saga. This is more about Edward and Bella's daughter. A thick book that didn't make me excited to read every single word. I just scanned the book, the "conversation" parts of the book.

My verdict? I definitely love the first book. The second and third, Not! The fourth, it was important to make the vampire-human love story a happy ending.

Yes, this is my bookshelf. I know, I need to buy a bigger one. It is so crowded, books are spilling all over the place already. But our condominium unit can't accommodate another furniture. I did bring some books to our other house, but I still have lots of books on this shelf (some I haven't read yet). I do share this bookshelf with my son. His books are on the last two rows of the shelf.

I collect different kinds of books. From classic (what my younger sister calls "boring books") to inspirational, I even have joke books in my collection. When I was in my teens I do collect romance novels, but I do not like reading those now. My favorite authors right now? James Patterson, Michael Crichton, some Oprah's bookclub books.
