Are you cheap or frugal

I'm a frugal person and I'm proud to be one. I value the quality of everything that I buy because money doesn't grow on trees, right? I make sure that I set aside a portion of what I earn every month. Sometimes I put it in my savings account and sometimes add it to my stock market investment.

Every time I go grocery shopping, I bring a list of things that I need and don't just grab anything that I fancy from the shelves. I compare the price and quality of different brands. I don't exactly buy the cheapest and not the most expensive either. Expensive doesn't necessarily mean the best and cheap doesn't necessarily mean the best value.

So I'm frugal but I'm not cheap. Like for clothes, appliances or furnitures, I don't go for the brand but I go for the quality. If for example I buy audio racks, I won't buy the cheapest if it looks like it's made of low quality material. If it's the most expensive but looks like it's worth the price, that's what I'll buy. I prefer buying expensive clothes because it lasts longer than cheap clothes made with cheap material.

Valentines Day

Christmas Day is over, New Year’s celebration is in 2 days. Two more months and it’s Valentine’s Day. Have you bought gifts for your loved ones for this coming Valentine's day already? I haven't yet but I'm planning to hit the mall when prices go down after the Christmas holiday.

I really don’t like to go shopping when the mall is so full of shoppers also. And I don’t like last minute shopping. Better to buy those gifts early. I ought to make my list already.

MMT #11 - Mom-ME Time, 31 July 2011

Yesterday, I was able to have a few minutes of ME time.

We went to Shangrila Mall with the hope of finding soccer shoes for RJ. The shoes that he tried for the past few weeks were either too small or too big for him. When we arrived there, RJ joined a Thermos cooking event so I was able to have my alone time shopping.

I was able to find comfortable shoes for me and a few good books for RJ. But we were not able to find spikes for him. We have to keep on looking. In another sports store, in another mall, perhaps we’ll be able to find one already.

MMT #6 - Mom-ME time, 26 June 2011

How was your weekend mommies? Mine was good but I was worried the past few days because of the storm Falcon. Although Mr. Sun gave a small glimpse of himself, I'm glad that the heavy rain has stopped.

I just got back from doing my weekly grocery shopping. Before that we, me, my son, nephew and sisters, went to church to hear mass. Then the kids enjoyed an hour playing in Timezone. They went home after that and I went to the grocery store.

I was planning on having a foot spa but I will just do that next weekend. An hour, in the grocery store, of buying the things that we need for the week was my ME-time. Some of you might not consider doing your mommy chores your ME-time, but everytime I am by myself is already a ME-time for me.

I was able to relax my mind and be stress-free for an hour,so that's an awesome ME-time for me already.

What about you, how was your ME-time?

shopping has never been this easy

My cousins' wedding is in a few days. I bought two new dresses, during SM Megamall's 3-day sale, a few weeks back. I can't decide which one to wear for my cousin's wedding, so I put both dresses in my suitcase. When I arrived in Bicol, I can't help but give the dresses to my Mom and Aunt B.

Now I have nothing to wear for my cousin's wedding. I don't want to embarrass him by showing up in church wearing a plain white shirt and faded jeans. A social networking site and a friend who's addicted to online shopping helped me with my problem.

I have a lot of things on my to-do list today. I was set on finishing it before the end of the day but I got stuck browsing my friend's summer vacation pictures. I finally realized that I was unproductive for two hours already when my Mom said that lunch was ready.

I was about to say words-not-fit-for-this-blog to myself but a car for sale by owner posting on my friend's account grabbed my attention. The car was listed in an online classifieds website. I got curious, the price was so affordable for a very fancy car, so I followed the link. It happened to be a listing on second-hand vehicles. There's a page for frequently asked questions so the site is very easy to navigate. If you're out of the country, an article on "how to sell a car by owner who doesn't live in the Philippines" is available for you to read.

I also found a dress that I can wear for my cousin's wedding. With just one click of the mouse, my "dress problem" was solved. I never thought shopping online is so easy. Have you shopped online? If you haven't yet, you should try it.

currently reading

I finally got a copy of Mini Shopaholic. AlthoughI have a love/hate relationship with Becky Brandon (nee Bloomwood), I got sad when I finished reading Shopaholic and Baby. I love her funny side but I hate when she spends too much.
Mini Shopaholic Sophie Kinsella
Shopaholic is a series of books by Sophie Kinsella. Becky Bloomwood is the main character of the first five books while her daughter Minnie takes the limelight on the most current book published in 2010. Becky is a shopaholic and addicted to anything that's fab. She'll buy anything from a simple toothpick to a Playbook
as long as it looks fab and expensive.

I'm halfway through the book. I will miss the adventures of Becky and her horrible, which turns out succesful in the end, financial decisions. Until we meet again Becky Bloomwood Brandon!

what the future will bring

I am a thrifty person, I make sure that I have enough for "rainy days". I want to know where I spend every single centavo of my hard-earned money. I try to save more than half of what I earn.

To avoid buying the latest expensive trends, I look at the opposite direction of counter displays on department stores. But I must admit I do buy once in a while, especially if the price is right.

No one in this world has the power to know what the future has in store for each one of us. It is better to save up, a single peso a day will do, instead of begging money from people we know during rainy days.

leave me in peace

When I go shopping, I browse different stores for hours and hours. Sometimes I end up buying nothing at all. I am not a compulsive shopper. It's no surprise that my younger sisters don't like to tag along when I shop.

A major turn off for me is when salesladies hover and suggest things for me to buy. I will leave that store in a blink of an eye! I want to shop in peace. How can I concentrate on what I am looking for if they're suggesting a new shampoo or perfume that I don't necessarily need? I will definitely forget what my purpose was in going in that store.

To all sales ladies out there, please just approach a customer if they beckon you to help them. Or if they've been browsing the same item for hours already. Don't bombard your customers with suggestions as soon as they enter the store. Sometimes what you want us to try on doesn't even look good on us, not exactly our type or we don't even need. Please allow us to see for ourselves, we're not blind, what your store has to offer.

are you done with your Christmas shopping?

11 more days to go before Christmas!

I haven't done my Christmas shopping. Don't even have a Christmas shopping list yet. I did buy gifts for some of my son's teachers and classmates a month ago. I only have this weekend to complete the gift buying for those people. Next week is last week of classes before Christmas break.

I also have a Christmas lunchdate with my friends 2 weeks from now. Only bought rosaries and rosary guides for each one of them. Have to buy pouches for the rosaries as well as gifts for their hubbies and kids.

For my family, don't have any idea yet what gifts to give them.

I better start my list.

Ta-ta for now!
