Summer Beach Trip

Region Five; Bicol; PhilippinesSadly, none.

Summer is over? Time flew by so fast! And I can’t believe we didn’t even get to enjoy a beach trip, the whole 1 month (plus less than a week more) that I was in the Bicol region. The region is surrounded by water and I didn’t get to enjoy the warm feel of the sand under my feet or the wonderful smell of salty air from the sea.

I should get the sunless tanning booths discount deal that I saw on my email inbox earlier because my summer wouldn't be complete without me getting a few shades darker.

Summer Fun Activity: Guitar Lessons

My son chose to enroll in guitar lessons this summer break. He already has 2 guitars, one is in Manila and I bought another one here in the province. I bought the second guitar last summer break when I enrolled him in guitar and piano lessons. Those lessons were unsuccessful because one: he keeps complaining that his fingers hurt after each guitar lesson and two: he didn't practice when we got back home in Manila so he completely forgot his lessons.

But this year he's getting good in playing the guitar. Maybe because I didn't choose what he should enroll in. He also asked his teacher to help him learn "Crash" by Matt Willis, a song featured on the movie "Mr. Bean's Holiday". He gets to play the songs that he likes and he now loves playing the guitar. My niece, who’s taking piano lessons might buy a guitar or a banduria because she wants to learn how to play another musical intrument this summer break. RJ wants to learn how to play the drums. Maybe next year, we’ll see.

summer activities

I try to squeeze in as much fun activity on RJ’s daily schedule this summer break. He has guitar lessons and he’s also learning how to ride a bike. Because of too much pollution in Manila, it’s much better for him to do it, learn how to bike, while were here in the province. Air is more clean here.

If he can have his way, he’d rather play computer all day long. But because I’m worried he might destroy his eyes and wear reading glasses this early, I have to look for more activities that he can do in lieu of sitting all day long in front of the computer.

I ask him to help me do the laundry. He paints and draw when he’s in the mood. I also let him use my camera, with a clear warning not to drop and put scratches on it, so he can learn photography. We take pictures of birds and leaves and spiders and caterpillars.

A mom has to be creative but I’m running out of ideas. Help!

It's More Hot in the Philippines

Some people loves to bask under the heat of the sun. Not me. And I'm not loving this summer heat we're experiencing right now. The humidity level has also increased tremendously since the start of the summer season. I have to take a bath 10 times every day! I can't wait for the rainy days.

Swimming pool owners must be the happiest, not to say more rich, these days. They get to save on electricity since they don't need to turn on their pool heater. Aside from that, resorts are always fully booked these days so their cash registers are always full-to-the-brim-with-cash as well.

But I'm not a resort owner, I don't get as rich as them during summer months, so I'm not the happiest during summer season. I already said it and I'm saying it again, I can hardly wait for the rainy season.

What is your favorite summer fruit

It's summer once again and fruits, like RJ's favorite mango, are in abundance. We used to have a mango tree in our yard when I was growing up. I remember getting woken up in the middle of the night each time a ripe mango fall on the roof.

The tree had to go when our house got renovated. I miss that tree. Now I have to buy if I want to eat green mangoes. A kilo is 25php during summer and it goes up to around 60php during non-summer days.

Wanted: Maid

Four more days and we’re back to our real world. We’re flying back to Manila on Sunday. I’ll surely miss having someone do the house chores, having a maid is awesome. Well, at least in the morning, at night I wash the dishes because she’s a stay-out maid. Starting on Sunday, when we arrive in Manila, I’ll have to do the laundry, clean the house, do everything by my lonesome self again.

Our vacation here in the province was so stress-free. I didn’t have to worry about the meals, the unclean house and the dirty laundry. Thanks to our maid.

Maid

I have no luck in finding a good maid that I can bring in the city. How I wish there’s a maid catalog just like that of Avon products. That would make things easier for people looking for a good helper. Just browse the catalog, compare the maids and find the perfect one for your family!

hot summer heat

The sun was very bright in our bedroom window this morning. Is summer here already? Hopefully not! The weatherman said that the country will still experience rain for a few more days. Why the hot morning sun then? I'm not thrilled with the flooding in some parts of the country and in other parts of the world. But a little drizzle, that'll give cool air on my face, is more welcome than the humidity that we have in this country all year round.

But as the day progressed, clouds began forming in the sky. It's 4pm already and not a single rain has dropped yet. No rain but cool air blowing, I love! When I stepped in the shower, the glass tiles felt so cold on my bare feet. It usually takes more than 30 minutes for me to take a bath, but 10 minutes in the cold shower was more than enough for me to bear.

The weatherman was right, we won't experience the heat of summer yet.

should i vote on may 10

Malfunctioning PCOS machines just 6 days before the elections? Unbelievable.

Will the machine count my votes? Am I going to waste my time lining up in the voting precincts? With the unbearable summer heat that we are experiencing right now! Am I going to waste my energy shading those "bilog na hugis itlog"?

Having second thoughts, really I am not kidding.

depressing...

This very hot weather, aside from making me feel sticky, is also making me sleepy and depressed.

I have a gazillion things to do but I don't have the energy to do it. It's zapping away all my energy.

Please dear God, let it rain today!

soooo hot!

Why are you so happy Mr. Sun? Can you at least distance yourself a few light-years away from Mother Earth?

That is me right now, I am not kidding! It is sooo hot in the Philippines.

This is what I need right now. Rain.
